just formatted my pc and when i boot up in dos it asks me to choose

windows xp pro
windows xp pro

both roads lead to rome, so wondered how i can get rid of that entry?

Right click My Computer > Properties,

Go to Advanced Tab and under Startup and Recovery click Settings.

Then click EDIT under the default Operating System and you should see two lines like this under "operating systems".

Code:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"

The partition increments (the above example is partition(1). You might also see a partition(2) in the second similar line.

Delete the higher version increment (leaving partition(1)) nothing else, just the entire line as above then reboot.
