2 wireless routers

can i have 2 wireless routers in the same house 1 as a extender?i have a wireless router upstairs and a pair of plug in ethernet access points can i plug in the second wireless router to the plug in ethernet access point downstairs?the walls are really thick and there are metal beams as supports here and there which creats bad spots that even the rangemax cant cope with.

Provided they all do WDS or something similar, yes. If not, you'd need to run cable between them, or use one AP as a client of the router.

get 2 netgear APs. connect 1 as a client of your router. then put both the APs in 'multipoint' mode, and set them so they can both serve to wireless clients. if the metal supports are in the floor between the levels then put 1 AP directly above the other, if possible in the centre of the house.
