20 million PC gamers could defect from PCs to consoles by 2022

Agree 100%

I do use my PC for 4K gaming, but it's through my 65" OLED and me on the sofa with an Xbox one wireless controller in hand.

I'm not sitting at a desk getting wrist-ache.

Just going blind staring at a monster tv and getting thumb ache whilst sitting on a sofa wrecking your back.

Doubt it, I've been exclusively playing pS4 for a few years now and just bought a pc for around £1000 that easily outperforms it. That'll change with PS5 and I may head back to consoles until I can upgrade or by a pc for around £1000 that easily outperforms it. As long as you're happy to forget about needing a 2080ti or whatever is top tier at the time you can get a very good gaming pc that will beat a console a few years after launch, this has always been the case and always will be.

Yeah can't imagine either setup is really any better for your health really hah. If anything looking at a larger screen further away is probably marginally better for your eyesight.

I haven’t had to upgrade my CPU in donkeys. That leaves the graphics card. Buying a £400 graphics card every three years isn’t going to be problem for most people.

PC gaming really isn’t that expensive.

I've had my 4790k for a good few years now and even then I got it second hand. I treated myself to a Vega 64 18 months ago before the prices went crazy and that will probably do me for a good few years too. The rest of my PC is probably about 5 years old.

PS5... Its all about the keyboard and mouse and more importantly significantly less cheating than a PC game. While it still around its not at the proportions of every single online FPS game going and MMPORG PVP as well

(PUBG in a cheat free environment is game of beauty)

Cheap little laptop to run discord on the side and sorted.

Similar here. 3930k bought used. Vega 64 new but at a reasonable price. 48gb RAM all bought used. Mechanical keyboard is used. Speakers were ex-display from a shop. PSU was used. The only new parts apart from the V64 are a mouse, two SSD's and my Dell 30" monitor which is over 12 years old and still running fine.

I am about to build my son something but it will follow a similar pattern; mostly used parts.

The PC market is so overpriced it's just not worth buying new for the amount of gaming I have time for.

That rig won’t suffice for 60FPS 4K though. The PS5 will.

The PS5 isn't out yet. Nor is the specs confirmed.

Most games on the PRO don't do 4K either right? They change the res to suit the fps.

But anyway we don't have a price for the PS5, plus it's probably 2 years away making my machine worth probably half it's value.

So yeah, not comparable.

Gave up PC gaming a few years ago now.
My 2600k and Gtx670 are rotting away in the garage.

PS4 does me just fine, no need to check any specs the game will just work.
Nice and comfy with a pad and sat on the sofa. No constant obsession with tweaking the settings on games. Doubt i will every go back to PC gaming unless they do something to mess console gaming up.

.
this is a good point , for all the pcs better performance and visuals (and yet PC at the sharp end WILL perform better than a PS5 i bet money on it - even coding to the metal for a stable platform can only go so far) cheating on PC is a massive problem and is 1 huge plus point for consoles...

i support the strength of a pc being able to run unsigned code is also its Achilles heel.

We haven't seen any kind of OS for the PS5 yet but suppose Sony use some kind of Android like OS, there'll no doubt be a Discord app for it.

Not to say Discord won't create an app for whatever OS they use for the PS5, as long as the app has the features the desktop app has and is intuitive to use.

I doubt discord ever comes to a PS just for the functional barriers alone. Most won't want to go out and buy a keyboard if they even support one. And i've seen the keyboard you hook onto the controller that fills me with dread. Doubtful this is ever happening.

Plus when will a PS ever run android?

can never get rid of the pc still enjoy playing strategy games and wow not subbed at the moment but still i'll end up going back some point i do like my console though kicking back on sofa and playing cod or similar. office chairs are just not as comfy and never will be.

my current rig is 7 years old barring the 970 in it. so cant complain had my moneys worth trying too get 10 years out of it :p

That's because you are used to a Mouse and keyboard, believe me you will adapt to controllers, and as all your opponents on console also tend to be playing on controllers, it does level the playing field somewhat.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting here? Clearly M+K are better control systems for FPS and Isometric RPG's and that's not going to change.

Even when they eventually add M+K to consoles it's going to take a while to become mainstream. It will be a total change in how people play as well as that kind of control system requires you to be sat upright rather than on a sofa ideally. I'm not actually sure how it will work.
