20 million PC gamers could defect from PCs to consoles by 2022

Unless GPU prices come down I don't see myself upgrading for a while. Over £1000 for a 2080 Ti is madness (and I earn pretty well!).

That said both my PS4 and XBone X have been switched off for some time.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting here? Clearly M+K are better control systems for FPS and Isometric RPG's and that's not going to change.

In the last 8 years or so I've never played a single player FPS and thought I was having an inferior experience to a PC player using a keyboard and mouse...

The only time I went back to keyboard and mouse was when I played Overwatch for a few months on PC. And that was just to be competitive with other people in a PC multiplayer game.

If I had played it on console instead, everyone else would have been using controllers as well and it wouldn't have mattered.

i have a PC and a gaming keyboard and mouse. i still play 50% of my fpsers on pad, and all 3rd person games on pad. better does not always mean more effective.

I doubt discord ever comes to a PS just for the functional barriers alone. Most won't want to go out and buy a keyboard if they even support one. And i've seen the keyboard you hook onto the controller that fills me with dread. Doubtful this is ever happening.

Plus when will a PS ever run android?
It probably will never make the move to PS but it's a possibility. Why would you need a keyboard for discord? I can use the onscreen keyboard and use the controller to type just fine.

Re-read my post. I never said android will be running on a PS5.

Does PC gaming even make up a large percentage of nVidia's revenue any more though?

Seeing as the RTX failure has put a big dent in their earnings and share prices, yes. They also rushed out new non-RTX cards to try and fill the hole, but I don't think it's working.

With how prices are atm it won't surprise me. It's partly Nvidia's fault. £1500 for a 2080Ti and online etailers gouging. I do believe this will happen. PC market is super greedy on hardware. While I love my PC, it's getting harder to keep up. I'm thinking of getting a PS5 and just build a SFF PC just for browsing and media and go to consoles for gaming. I knew the greed on PC components would be it's downfall.

You can get a second hand 1060 6gb for like £100 which will play pretty much any game at 1080p fine.

People who buy high end are a minority and now they are an even smaller minority. Therefore I don't see the market dropping at all. If anything building a decent gaming pc now is cheaper than ever.

500GB SSD - £50
16gb RAM - £85
CPU + Mobo - £200
PSU - £45
Monitor - £100
Case - £45
GPU - £150

So you are talking £600ish brand new

a new console is £400 and doesn't include cost of monitor / tv.

I think it is more a case of having no games to play than the hardware!

Still even only ten years ago you could build a top spec PC for a grand. It is at least double that now.

Those prices seem exceptionally low to me. What monitor and GPU are you getting for £250 combined?

You see, this confuses me. Keep up with what? If it's the latest and best hardware then it's no Nvidia's fault or etailers, it's people like you "keeping up". My PC is 6 or 7 years old now, maybe a little older. Older generation i7, R9 270 or 280 graphics card. Other than a 500gb SSD and 16gb RAM I've not had to keep up with anything and I still play a lot of newer games and they play well and look good. I'll be buying new again soon and this unit will go to my wife for gaming and photo editing, while my new one will be the same. Even then my budget will be £800-1000 max. that's not bad for a system that will last me 8-10 years.

The only people suffering are those that chase FPS or must have the latest gear for the e-weiners.

Pad vs Keyboard argument always seemed odd to me. Both systems will support it. Both methods have their pros and cons, and are suited to certain genres.

I have a lovely keyboard and mouse, and I have an Xbox One S controller. I love both.

K&M is undeniably better for FPS, RTS and some Sims. Controller is arguably better for third person, platformers, beatemups and arcade racers.

There are so many great indie titles these days and I love to enjoy them on controller. But R6Siege on a controller? Who’s going to argue that? Just depends on your preference. It’s awesome than console players finally have the choice.

The truth is, if the rumours are true and the PS5 is very special, I will buy one. I have a great, if generationally behind, PC, and I’ll keep using it. But exclusives and a cheater-free (comparably) experience is worth something. Also my TV and my V6 box suck at running streaming platforms, and having one input and one device for everything is nice. If I can stream content to the PS5 all the better.

I don’t think you can argue against the price, size, performance and simplicity of a console. Just like you can’t argue about the power, flexibility and upgradeability of a PC. In my eyes, one is a gaming platform, and one is an awesome hobby in its own right.

PC gaming will never die.

By the time the PS5 comes out (2021-2022 right? even if it does have 2080ti performance) PC gaming will be miles ahead of 2080ti performance, especially with AMD now pushing AMD.

That and playing FPS' on a controller is just awful, no thanks.

just type 1060 6gb and 27" monitor into HUKD and have a browse

there was a 27" monitor for £90 on HUKD a few weeks back

obviously it won't be a 2080ti or a 250hz g sync 4k monitor but you aren't going to get a 4k tv for £100 either for console gaming.

Ultrawide and VR need high performance hardware. I accept that these are expensive toys, but wide adoption can o PT make PC gaming better, and making the hardware to run it prohibitively and unnecessarily expensive will only force the industry into stagnation. Develops will only make games for the lowest common denominator, which means the average level of available performance, and the average level of tech. If people aren’t upgrading, or like me they refuse to and buy second hand, gaming won’t move forward, VR won’t improve, and we’ll be stuck with the same ‘safe bet’ gaming experiences, on the same tired hardware.

If Nvidia had made the RTX series sensibly prices, they wouldn’t have been able to sell them fast enough, rather than every outlet having stock. We shouldn’t need competition for companies to make the sensible choice for the longevity of their industry and the continuation of their business.

I think the nature of this forum means we have a disproportionate amount of people with "high end" builds.
I think most people who build gaming PCs at the budget end tend not to be "into" hardware as much as the people on this forum.

Which in turn will cause more people on here to say the sky is falling

Although I do miss my gaming PC, I don't miss it enough to shell out £££'s for another decent one. The xbox one x is excellent, supports keyboard and mouse and has some great games on it. The PC thing's as much about tweaking and messing about as it is using it to play games, with a child I don't get hours and hours to sit in a darkened room swearing at German teenagers anymore so the console satisfies the odd evening I do get free.

The slow drip of CPU performance increases requiring a new MB and RAM every 2-3 years hasn’t helped.

Sorry, but I'm not paying £500-£600 for a 5% performance increase every other year when I’m happily playing SP games at 1080p with my old i5 2500K.

PS5... Its all about the keyboard and mouse and more importantly significantly less cheating than a PC game. While it still around its not at the proportions of every single online FPS game going and MMPORG PVP as well

(PUBG in a cheat free environment is game of beauty)

Cheap little laptop to run discord on the side and sorted.
I have to agree with this, I don’t particularly like game pads but having out of curiosity bought Battlefield 4 for the PS4 I have to admit it’s a far more enjoyable game on the console , basically on my regular weekend BF4 PC gaming sessions I frequently come across someone who’s blatantly cheating yet on the PS4 I don’t have this experience, rounds seem more balanced without the odd few players with ridiculous kill / death ratios...

Graphically it’s no where near as good as my 4K pc (for the cost of the PC I’d bloody well hope so!) but that’s not the be all imo and frankly on an FPS game visuals are not the thing your generally concentrating on anyway.

If decent keyboard & mouse support comes to the PS or X-Box I can see my long term PC gaming days dwindling.

Ultimately, if £1500 buys you a component for a pc compared to a 4K TV, Console and shed load of games then it’s a decision a lot of casual gamers aren’t going to ponder in the slightest, they’ll just opt for the console imo.

And this also!
