20% of school kids malnourished...

try getting by on benefits, it aint easy, they dont give you enough

fruit and veg aint cheap these days. 1.75 for a bag of granny smith at the supermarket

ive had to do it in the past, just live off of offers, and the week there wasn't the offers that you need you just struggle.

its easy for well off people to say its cause the parents buy fags and alcohol but this aint true for most of us. just a typical generalization that all poor people waste every penny on ****

just been on radio2 (jeremy vine) that 1 in 5 school kids arent being fed enough.

clearly for a 'developed' country this is inexcusable.

what should be done?

cancel oversees aid? etc.

your thoughts.

(i know there will lots of 'let the scroungers die' from the right wing nutters we have but a lot of people are struggling at the moment)

Cutting overseas aid sounds like a right wing nutter statement to me, if by overseas aid you mean people who are truly suffering. We should cut national defence, green energy research (go nuclear), and stop paying bankers.

i wasnt saying that i would do it. that was part of the r2 'answers' (probably from a daily heil reader)

is nuclear really classed as green? i dont think the residents of chernobyl would have been quite so affected by a broken wind turbine ;)

Do people remember the success of Jamie's School Dinners? He made the school canteen serve healthy food, and the pupils all revolted, at least initially.

I do, if I remember rightly were some of the parents handing their kids junk food through the fences at meal times? Instead of the kids eating the Jamie's school dinners?

Personally, when I was a child at primary school we had 2 large areas set aside, one for a wildlife area/pond and the other was a large vegetable patch where we used to go out and learn about growing veggies and they would then be used in the canteen.

I can't see why schools can't be doing this sort of thing again.

We all know there are rubbish parents in the country, we need to be doing as much as possible at schools to help out while trying to educate the kids and parents.

I used to go to a rural school, and for those kids who chose Agriculture got to look after the schools own pigs, sheep and cattle. This included growing veg, hwowever I always had the suspicion that the veg never worked it's way into the school kithen.

great parents! if their kids insisted on crack would they give them that as well?

yeah. annoying. you just have to question what the hell they are thinking?

we have to tell my wife's grandma that no, our son cant have a kitkat (he isnt even a year old) and she just looks bemused. she will never be allowed to look after him on her own lol.

some parents seem to be more stupid than their young kids. i feel sorry for the kids as they will grow up chubby with health problems. IMO it should be seen as child cruelty or neglect. every time you go to a fast food place you will see so many people that really shouldnt be eating there.

Crappy reactor design coupled with human error. What could go wrong?

Nuclear technology would be far more advanced and efficient (think less nuclear waste, safer reactors, breeder reactors creating more fuel) if it wasn't for scaremongering.

Lack of education helps fuel fear.

its not lack of education is the knowledge that when nuclear goes wrong it is incredibly dangerous. i still think its the way forward as i get annoyed we are all buying electricity from the french nuclear stations.
