I bought myself a new motherboard and psu.
Now the problem is that my motherboard got a 20 pin power socket,
and you guessed it, my psu got a 24 pin connector.
Would i be better off getting a new motherboard with a 24 pin power socket?
What does the extra 4 pin do anyway?

If there is room next to the power socket you can fit a 24 pin connector and have the last 4 extra pins over the side, the power block will only fit on one way

it will work fine, it's just like some of the new psus have 20 + the extra 4 clipped on so you can make it into a 24, or use it on 20

It just depends if there is room next to the power connector to have the wider 24 pin plug

if your tight on room you could always cut the extra 4 off  and the next time you upgrade get a new psu if needed then.
