20 Seasons of the Premier League

Bit bizarre having McGrath but not Hyypia or Gallas (fair enough he had a couple of decent seasons at Villa but I never expected to see him on the list).
Spurs fans probably feel aggreived that King is behind him too, I do wonder if they felt they needed to squeeze more mid 90s players in. Contrast to the best goals list though, Rooney's is the only one from the past 9 seasons! Almost as though they starting going through the seasons picking a goal and then went "oh **** we've nearly hit 10 already and need to put Rooney's in" :) No Dalian Atkinson though (assume that was EPL?) :(

edit: And on Tom's year by year best LB list. Cole was better than Heinze, Evra, Baines and has been the best LB again this year.

Without getting into a year by year debate as we'd be here forever on what possible evidence has Cole been the best LB this season? You only have to look at Tummy's team of the season thread and there's been not one vote for him in there. I often remember something Gustov once said about Cole and that was that no one ever took him on and got past him and after that I always watched Cole carefully and for a long time he was right this season though he's been average at best (and I think I'm being kind). To give him credit he was brilliant tonight but every other time I've seen him he's struggled this season.

That's because he's a **** and nobody likes him but as much of a **** as he is, he's still been the best LB in the league this season.

I'd have to agree with that... I chose Baines, but I really wanted to choose Cole, just decided I wanted to go with someone that isn't a **** :p

Ryan Giggs - The Best Ever EPL player?

Lol.

It's a tough one tbh, on one hand obviously as players Henry and Ronaldo at their best in the PL were the best players in the world whereas I dont think Giggs has ever been considered to be that good, on the other hand though while Henry had lets say 3 years at the top (01/02, 02/03 & 03/04) and Ronaldo also had arguably 3 years at the top (06/07, 07/08 & maybe 08/09) Giggs has obviously been around and doing the business for far longer than both of them put together so longevity comes into play and can you really say a player who was only at their best for 3 years out of 20 deserves to be named best ever player? Like I said it's a tough one, I dont know who I'd have voted for, I doubt it would have been Giggs though.

Agreed totally, and as an Liverpool fan, I cannot complain at the decision to make Fergie the best ever manger, that is beyond dispute.

But Giggs? I don't know who I would vote for and you say some valid points, but it certainly would not be Giggs. You just have to look at the poll results to see how many of the millions of Man Utd fans voted in this poll compared to other teams.

It's obvious length of service won it for Giggs, but I don't think it should be the case at all, he has just been there, that's all, I wouldn't say he has done anything highly remarkable over the last 20 years.

Giggs may not have been the best in the world at any point, but he has certainly been among the best in the world for much of his career, and to maintain that level for over 20 years is an incredible feat that only the Maldinis and Del Pieros of this world have achieved. I think he's been underappreciated in this country on the whole, but this lot have some good words about him:

"Ryan makes you believe there is a football God"
Ron Atkinson

"Eric Cantona is a great player, but he's not as good as Ryan Giggs"
Johann Cruyff

"I was almost in tears watching him perform"
Alan Smith, Greater Manchester Schools Manager

"Giggs is the detonator, the man who can make Manchester United explode"
Jean Tigana

"I think Ryan Giggs must be the best player in England. He is outstanding. Any team in the world would love to have him"
John Jensen

"Like Best (George Best), there is a special fantasia about him"
Fabio Capello

"His talent is God-given. He will have wonderful skill even when he's got his bus pass, because that sort of ability never deserts you"
Brian Kidd

"He has achieved so much, but he is still years away from his prime, a frightening concept for defenders"
Tommy Docherty

"All of us at Juventus agreed Manchester United were the best side we met in the Champions League. They have so many talented young players and can only get better and better. Giggs is truly world class"
Zinedine Zidane

"Beckham and Scholes have shown their talents as goalscorers for England, but Giggs is the best. He was brilliant against us and he will be even better next year"
Alessandro Del Piero

"When he's at the top of his game, there's not a team in the world that can handle Giggs' speed and penetration"
Sir Alex Ferguson

"To spend twenty years at one club is unique in this era. Ryan has been a fantastic servant to United. It will be a comforting thought if he ends his career here."
Sir Alex Ferguson

"When Ryan runs at players he gives them twisted blood. They don't want to be a defender any more."
Gary Pallister

"I remember the first time I saw him. He was 13 and he floated across the ground like a cocker spaniel chasing a piece of silver paper in the wind."
Sir Alex Ferguson

"It's almost impossible to replace a player like Ryan Giggs - you do not find many players like him. He is a rarity. He has world class attributes and has achieved so much at one club. You can only look up to him."
Ji-sung Park

"Ryan’s amazing. His energy, his work-rate, his passing and his movement are unbelievable. It’s a privilege to play with him. He’s 36 but plays more like a 26-year-old as he’s up and down the pitch all the time; he’s everywhere."
Wayne Rooney

Rhodri Giggs "The man is nothing but a worm, a weasel and a bottler.."

Another quote for him

Cant argue with Fergie getting it.

Giggs great talent, scummy person after what he did to his own brother.

I don't waste my time with The Sun and Hello! like you seem to so I couldn't care less what he gets up to off the pitch to be honest. :)
