Looking for the above, dont have the speakers yet, but have that sort of budget and about £150 for the speakers.

What would people reccomend for that budget for new & used? Can be a teeny bit over, but there or there abouts.

its gonna be plugged into a PC, basically, so RCA would be the minimum, though optical be a preference possibly?

Purely for music in my office.

I got a NAD C352 last week for £220 delivered. Paid slightly more for it than others on ebay but it was brand new in August 09 with a 3 year warranty. Excellent amp for the money

I would suggest looking for a Nad C352, C370 if you need even more power, Marantz PM7200, Arcam Alpha A70, Music fidelity A100 or Audiolab A8000

Mine is connected to my B&W 603 speakers and Xonar essence soundcard via cambridge arctic interconnector.

edit - I just read 'music in your office' Does your office PC have a decent soundcard, no point in spending hundreds on amp and speakers if you use onboard sound

:(

It is onboard as it goes, but thats likely to change anyways. This all started out from this thead:

My quandry was to spend £400 on PC speakers, or HiFi, and was convinced to go down the hifi route. The PC speakers did use USB for the audio (to use its internal processing no doubt).

I can add in a better sound card, but i would say onboard has come on a long way, and if i could somehow use a digital connection (hence optical or SPDIF) then it would improve it i'm sure. That said, after blowing £400 on audio, if i need to drop another £50 on sound card i would...

Get a decent DAC like a Beresford 7520, then you can use it at home too. I doubt onboard soundcards have come a long way really, whats a motherboard cost £100, maybe £150 for a very good one. Some soundcards cost that alone, and some dedicated DACs cost thousands

£150 DAC
£200 Amp
£100 Speakers

Look out for bargain speakers on ebay and avforums

i should say its my home office, so dont need to worry anout transporting it around!

a DAC? Fpr connecting what optical to it, then plugging that into the amp? This is a new level to me? Thanks!

Never used one myself but i think it goes something like this - Soundcard optical to DAC, DAC to Amplifier, then amp to speakers as usual
