Looking to get a new car after mine was written off before christmas, insurance company are paying out this week, and I've found a 2000(X) 2.4T SE manual a few miles away for £1500, 110k, FSH, looks decent on the trader, going to have a look tomorrow or Saturday, anything in particular to look out for please?Cheers. :)

As above. Turning circle is by far the worst of any car i have driven, but it was comfy and refined enough.

I believe the bushes are prone to wear rapidly on these, but im sure some of the volvo experts will confirm.

Thanks for the replies, just spoken to the couple who've got it for sale, waiting for a call back to let me know when I can go and see it. :D

The turning circles on these Volvos went from one extreme to the other.
The turning circle on my S90 (960) is tiny, the wheels are almost as tight as on a London Taxi :p

We currently have an '04 V70 2.4T.

Turning circle is pretty crap - but we're averaging 28.3mpg so its also quite thirsty.
On the plus side they're very comfy, good ride, and you can certainly cram a lot in.

Not sure how an '00 and '04 compare though :p

28MPG's not bad!

Thats what I used to average with mine. Went as low as 24 round town, up to 35 on the motorway pre spanking. It was an auto which didn't help, and i later found out it had been remapped which I didn't know at the time.

I have to say I really enjoyed driving it, i just couldn't justify the outlay on fuel. Being auto it almost drove itself and the i thought the autobox was great, far better than the E class auto i've since driven a couple of times.

EDIT just seen the post above. OUCH!! mine was far better than that with an older, slightly bigger engine. Maybe the mk2 is a lot heavier?

Fuel economy has never been Volvo's strong point. Even their (big) diesels aren't all that economical.

My mum's V50 2.4 (140bhp) averages 26, and my auto S90, well.. I'd rather not say :o

It's a petrol! UK only got the 2.4i (170) :p

I thought you meant a 2.4D.

I suppose around town that stacks up with what i found. I have to disagree on the big diesels though, I think they are pretty good for a relatively large car. But I suppose it depends how well they are matched.

I guess an S60/V70 II is about trinity for the 163bhp D5 engine, and XC90 will be fairly awfull.

I averaged 29'ish in my 1.6 Scenic, if I can get within 5mpg of that figure along with double the bhp, I can live with that!

Looking at a 2004 Primera 2.0 SVE tomorrow too at the request of my father in law, but I think I'd rather have the V70! ;)

My 2.4t averages 20mpg, but that's mainly town driving, and its awd, which won't help consumption.
Apart from that its an awesome car.

Turning circle isn't great, mines on 16" rims so is a bit tighter than your average v70, but its never really been an issue for me, my street entrance is pretty tight. You soon get used to the size.

Just got back, immaculate inside and out, but engine management light on, emissions warning on the dash, mayo in the oil, and down on power, thought it best to walk away, shame! :(
