The bleep over DC's interview may have only just faded out yet we're already off to Sepang, just outside Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Form is a bit difficult to predict, in 9 years there have been 4 Ferrari wins, 2 each for Renault & Mclaren and one for Williams. Of course with thunderstorms forecast all bets could be off.

If you're interested in seeing what the tracks look like I've updated my Google Earth links and flyovers. Unfortunately it's still not perfect, Fuji for example is still low res and the imagery for Valencia is a fair age so the purpose built bridge isn't visible. To play the flyovers select the flyover folder and press the play button at the bottom of the Places pane.

Just read an interesting analysis of the new gearbox rules which pointed out something I hadn't spotted previously - teams will now have to be very careful if they want to introduce a B spec car with new rear suspension etc. Since this will likely require a new gearbox casing with the new mount points it can only be introduced (without penalty) when the team is allowed a new box. So for the likes of STR who have a new car scheduled for round 5 this could be a problem, Vettel is entitled to a new box for Malaysia but will he take it? If he does then he probably won't race the new car until Monaco.

Why is "that's not an overtaking place" a reason not to try to pass someone? Alonso was hailed for overtaking in the middle of the Imola chicane at Magny Cours last year but as soon as someone makes a mistake of passing it's suddenly wrong to try?

OK, prediction here. Hamilton could be heading for a DQ - that right front disk thing is in danger of being classed as a moveable aerodynamic device.

That was a bit of a shocker. Don't normally lose the car in the middle of a corner, really need an external shot of that to be sure though.

Why is it that Hamilton is so slow behind webber yet when webber made his 1st pit stop and Ham passed he wasnt far of Ferrari pace.
Hamilton is only 0.7s behind Webber so his pace will be determined by that of Webber. He can't pass because he's too close to get decent aero grip onto the straights so he can't get close enough to outbrake Webber into the next corner.

Surely having been in F1 for as long as he was that someone told Martin that "box" is far easier to understand on a radio than "pit"

I can understand the safety reasons for doing that but with the way qualifying is at the moment they might as well not bother and just draw names out a hat.

They didn't like single lap qualifying because people ended up being disadvantaged by not being able to run at the end of the session when the rubber was down. If everyone wants to run at the end of the session and someone doesn't get a clean lap, tough! That's just the way it is.

The thinking would be that as there are more races, sponsors will pay more as there will be more TV coverage, advertising Sponsor names. Hence, the bill will be footed by the sponsors.
I'm pretty sure that the Concorde Agreement is based round 16 races with the bulk of the additional costs being met by the FIA should there be, with the team's agreement, additional races. There was a whole big hoohah about it when we first had a 17 race season.

That said the Concorde Agreement is up for renegotiation for 2009 so anything could happen.
