I bought red dead soon as it was released but got bored half way through Mexico missions. Became so repetitive. For me Mass effect 2 has been greatest. Medal of Honor was awesome but too short.

I bought new Vegas for 20 quid today so that might prove best but I need to play fallout 3 first lol

2009 for Dragon Age though.

For me it has to be Mass Effect 2, I'd say SSFIV but it's essentially SFIV which was my GOTY for 2009 anyway.

You can play it after tbh, the story doesn't continue on from 3. However, I strongly recommend that you do, as it's such an amazing game, and NV is more of the same but with cream on top. Good buy!

It got mixed reviews certainly. Some members here along with some press eg Games (tm) loved it. I thought it was amazing the way you could make your own choices and those choices were felt throught out the whole game unlike others that only have this as a superficial feature. I loved you could rest up between missions and choose your own skills and abilitys. Was really gutted there will be no sequel or dlc. End of the day my game of the year is simply the one I had the most fun with reguardless of faults and that is where Alpha Protocol shines IMO.
 
Mass Effect 2 for me.

I said back in February that it was highly likely that it would be game of the year, despite being so early on before most of the big contenders. As a single player experience it's fantastic and I've still got the opportunity to play through it again as a different style of character.

I believe it's already won at least one game of the year award already.

Red Dead was also good, but I feel it reaches that stage where it becomes somewhat repetitive like GTA.


As far as online goes, I've played a lot of Battlefield, Halo Reach and Black Ops.
I spent a lot of time playing Battlefield and really enjoyed that, but after unlocking everything, it got a little stale.
Black Ops has been fun, but it's more of the same really.
I wouldn't really rate the single player game of either as anything special, certainly not game of the year material.

Good online play, which I think is possibly what games need to be divided up into now.
 
Mine aren't on this rubbish pulled out of someones backside list.

Agree with earlier mentions of Alpha Protocol and also New Vegas closely followed by Splinter cell conviction.
