2016 : A Pivotal Year For AMD, Nvidia, PC Gaming And VR

I am sure they will have ED working by the time I get mine (or they bloody well better had or else) and Only played Alien for a few mins but stopped it purely because I was a big girl scared.

I also accept there will be some teething issues with the CV1 but my experiences with the DK2 have me sold. I hope for a lot of people's sake the Vive will be cheaper but I am not holding out much hope.

If the Vive looks the better prospect, I have no issues getting one of those either but I would rather have one that does all so to speak and don't fancy one for one game and another for another game.

I am also massively limited in space and only a small box room for my man cave :(

Weren't NV doing some Trump-esque bragging that they had a better headset in the works that solved motion sickness and all these ails?

Apparently there is a pretty clear upgrade path for the tech to take as the years roll on, if they keep upping the rez/hz and tweaking the IQ and dropping the price adoption + support will snowball. But fact is most people can't afford £500. They can afford iPhones though somehow...

No, there was a rumour that Nvidia were working on a headset from wccftech or some other site but that never appeared and as for people affording iphones, seriously? A bit silly that.

sounds a bit more promising - I know people said they were able to tune out screen door with DK2, but I just couldn't... if it really is to the point you can't see it even if really trying then that would be great

The screen door effect was the first thing I noticed but I was able to see past it in time (if that makes sense) plus the only game I really am playing is ED and that with some tweaks looks amazing on the DK2, so can only imagine it will be even better on the CV1. I do hope that cross vendor is supported though, as I really don't want to have to buy both to play the games I want.

I have put my DK2 up for sale in the MM as per my Mrs request :D

As for how it works, this is a really poor example but you get to see how the headtracking works at least.

Now imagine everything in proper 3D and you are almost there. An incredible experience in truth and 1 that needs to be tried first hand.

All of a sudden I am really interested in one of these. Must be awesome really, totally immersive. Possibilities are quite frankly endless it would seem.

It looks total garbage to how it looks through the HMD. It really is a game changer and I can't tell people enough times. Try it, try it, try it.

I didn't have any issues to speak of with the DK2 and SteamVR. I did find the 0.6 SDK worked better than the 0.8 SDK though but that might have been just a me thing as others seemed to be ok.

The dev kit was $350 so personally I thought it wouldnt be much more if anything at all. It's almost double the price for retail. I think thats why I and others are scratching their heads at the ridiculous price.

They sold the dev kits at a loss. No way would they do that with the retail release and they have stated they are selling at cost. I really do expect the Vive to be £600 minimum but purely guessing here and they might be able to source cheaper parts.

I didnt know they are selling at a loss. I still dont believe either, that there is no-one fleecing us out of a large chunk of £ for these headsets. I'm sure there is an NVidia badge stuck somewhere on them.

Haha.

I have absolutely no idea and don't really care as the price was acceptable to me, so I ordered. The Nvidia bit made me chuckle :D

Please form an orderly queue outside Gregs house tomorrow morning at 9am.......Bring a packed lunch.

Gregs wife will NOT be serving tea or coffee unless he charges on the door.

Maybe this is why they say that there is "Always a long queue outside Greggs" :p

I do lots of baking and cooking :D

The DK2 is sold now sadly and playing ED on a monitor is poo lol. Jedifragger has it now but not long to wait till March 28th, albeit it will feel like an eternity :(

We have different circles Cat. The few gamers I have spoken to that I personally know don't feel that £500 is too much at all and 2 of the 3 that had a go have pre-ordered as well. They have also had a go on my DK2 that Jedi now has and the third guy is on the fence because of the price and being fair to him, it is a lot of money with his family responsibilities.

I had no doubt it would sell very very well. It still doesnt stop it from being expensive though.

It isn't expensive to me and I was predicting £400 but happy to pay up to £600. After using the DK2, I was sold straight off. People pay well over £300 for steering wheels and pedals, it just needs to be put in perspective for your own viability.

Edit:

Just to add - I had been saving up for this, so the cost wasn't such a blow.

Gregster, I was always VERY likely to buy the Rift, but watching your comments in the ED thread made me know for sure I had to buy it. So cheers!

Genuinely, I am slaughtered right now but no matter what, VR is truly amazing and anyone who writes it off needs to at least give it a try. Totally a different gaming experience that needs to be seen first hand. Sure the CV1 is expensive but for the wow factor alone, it is well cheap!
