2017 Intermot - New bikes and updates revealed

As Tom says, Euro 4 is pounding manufacturers. Which i think is a good thing, get's them innovating some more.

The guys on our Alps Whatsapp group have made me change my mind about the MT-10 SP. I think they just like toying with me :(

The husky 701 has received a huge update for 2017 - new engine, more power and torque. Definitely not annoyed that I bought a 2016 model in May...

The new engine produces an additional 6bhp, bringing peak power up to a quoted 74bhp at 8000rpm. Torque is also increased, up to 52ftlb at 6750rpm. The new engine also features a second counter balancer shaft to reduce vibrations. A new 50mm throttle body gets rid of the mechanical linkage to the throttle for improved throttle response.

New engine highlights

Increased power & torque of 74 hp & 71.0 Nm
An additional 1000 rpm of usable power
Reduced oscillating masses for lower vibrations
New intake resonator for improved response at low rpm
Long service intervals & low fuel consumption
Single overhead cam =>Double spark plugs
Large bore & short stroke [105 mm & 80 mm]
Forged aluminium piston
Cutting edge ride-by-wire electronics

Probably a similar feeling to all the people that bought brand new MT10s not that long ago :p

Should've seen it coming to be fair. That's the same engine as this year's Duke 690 isn't it?

Speaking of KTM. They need a naked between the Duke 690 and 1290. There's a massive chasm in between those bikes. But they are priced quite weird.

Yeah, they've pulled it from the Duke. Dealers suggested that the 690SMC might receive the upgrade, and the husky would stay as-is.

Interesting that they're pushing the new tech to the 701 rather than their own 690SMC.

Tbh. A guy had his 701 Dyno'ed and it put out 25% more HP and Torque - so it's possible to boost it up on the 2016 model if desperate for more power.

With the new 1090 engine (125bhp) they're got a perfect engine to make a new 1090 SMT, Duke etc, although the rumours seem imply a parallel twin mid-size naked rather than a v-twin :(

Its gonna be the New Tuono or MT10sp for me . I heard rumors of a posh Mt10 and given my local dealer is a bit of a **** im glad i held off as was tempted at 10k . Will get summit after my wedding next year

The new Tuono has had the sound neutered a lot, which was one of the big selling points for me :(

I'll be upgrading in spring too unless I find a stellar deal over winter.

The MT-10 SP and an older Tuono are at the top of my list.

It's not just down to emissions, sound levels are also much more tightly controlled with a new test as part of Euro4 regs so that'll play a part in them putting massive hideous end cans on.

Indeed. The S1000Xr has been modified for 2017 with Euro 4 in mind. 5 extra bhp to compensate for the massive extra 10 kg of weight they've had to bolt on! Ok, so not all of it is for emissions and noise, but a fair chunk certainly is.

Any videos of the sound or is that just reviews?

Stick on an akra can and you're good.

You need to fit a full system on the new bikes to make any difference to the sound.

The volume is measured at 89dB now instead of the 104dB of the older ones.

The first thing i would do is change the end can and decat ... so the new euro 4/5 shiz makes little difference . I have yet to ride the Mt10 and i do prefer twins or v4 . My heart says Tuono but my wallet says Mt10

Get an older Tuono.

I reckon you'll get a 2015/2016 Tuono factory for close to £10k once the new models are out. The new ones are a very decent upgrade (apart from the sound), Cruise Ccontrol, downblipper, LCD dash, Brembo M50's etc.
