2070 Vs 2080, is the 2080 worth it?

I'm debating on the full fat 2070 and 2080 in a laptop but of all the things I can find on it, it appears the 2080 is only 15% faster? Yet commands a premium. Any real world users able to tell me their experience so I can compare?

Thanks

My honest opinion is no, not worth it over the 2070. Not really. From all the reviews I have been seeing lately, you get a pretty noticeable gain in fps but at the cost of poor thermals, LOUD fans and obviously the tremendous price premium you would need to pay to get your hands on one. Something else I've been seeing a lot of lately, certain brands are using single channel RAM rather than dual channel, and this is effecting the fps in some games. I was originally looking at the 2080 myself after investing in my 1070 some years ago - but once I saw the reviews I rapidly changed my mind.

It depends on what you want.

You can get a I7-9900K (desktop CPU), RTX 2080, 16GB 2666 RAM, 2 x 500GB Samsung 970 EVO, 144Hz display, with Win 10 Pro for £2,500 if you shop around.

How does that compare with specs and prices on RTX 2070 machines?

I went for the MSI GE75 2070, i could not justify the extra 400 quid for the 2080. It might be worth it if you plan on using an external monitor but for 1080p it's just pointless. the 2070 as an example gets a solid 144FPS on max settings in apex legends. Anthem is around 90-100FPS on ultra at 1080p. Maybe if ray tracing is your thing in the future it might be justifiable as there will most definitely be a gain there, but for now? I'm more than happy with the 2070.

Aren't they around £2,300? That's around the same price as the 2080 machine listed above if your remove one of the 500GB NVMe drives.

I paid around £2200 for mine. For the price sure you can get a clevo or a tongfang even cheaper, but having owned a clevo 970M last time they do have some limitations (drivers, control centre, support etc).

When i priced up the tongfang 2070 vs the MSI you only saved about 300 quid on the tongfang so didn't consider it enough of a saving this time round for me. The desktop clevo is a beast of a machine and although portability wasn't important i'd still get cramp with that on my lap.
