I've just seen on giantbomb that the 250GB 360 has been confirmed - there's a limited edition Modern Warfare 2 edition available for pre-order in the US now (No idea on the UK or Europe)

250GB Hard Drive
2 Wireless Controllers
Bundled with Modern Warfare 2

$399

With the current premise of the over priced Games on Demand platform, it was always going to happen but I am concerned at the price. As has been debated before the cost of the drive is so cheap and the housing is significantly cheaper, I would hope the price is acceptable but I'm sure it won't be. Makes me wonder whether I should replace my Zephyr box with a new one to minimise costs... Could see off my 20 & 60 Gb HDDs at the same time too... Lets see some prices for the UK market!

why is it you can;t just use any hdd in the 360?

is it a technical thing, ie the software needing a special type of drive or is it just a money making thing?

You can use a certain brand of 120Gb to replicate the 120Gb drive, but you have to be careful. The HDDs are flashed to carry the Xbox certification stuff and without it you can't use it. It would be much simpler if they released the cradle and allowed any 2.5" drive but that would lose them a peripheral device they can charge for.

I just can't stand the fact that
a) you can't use any HDD in the 360
and
b) the stupid price of the 360 HDDs

I don't want another 360, mines doing fine (touch wood) and has done for years now... but I really need more than a 20GB HDD on it and a 120GB drive is just going to cost silly money - easily close to the cost of a 2TB HDD :(

So christ knows what a 250GB drive is going to cost! Hopefully they reduce the cost of the 120GB drive to around £30-£50 or so. But I can't see that happening.

They've said that the 250GB drive will not sell on its own, I'm not sure how long that will last though.

I'm definitely tempted to get one of these if they appear in the UK for a decent price, I currently have an Elite with ODST on pre-order but I may well cancel that and order one of these if possible.

I could certainly do with the larger drive as I've just had to delete some game images from my 360 to clear up space.

It will be sold on its own eventually, it has to because of games on demand.

If they want that to take off then people will need a lot more space than the current max of 120GB.

Then there is the film download feature, game demos etc etc, it all adds up.

I would not be surprised if they release something so we can use our own HD at some point.

Its no different from what is currently in place with the HD they sell now, other than the housing, the encryption or file system they use can still be used on a different HD.

I really want one of these, the graphics are really subtle and nice. I read somwhere that orders for this in Europe will come towards the end of the week. I wish I had money to burn as I would definitely pick up one of these.

Unfortunately I cannot justify spending money when my Xbox is still working perfectly well.

Awww I really did make an absolute backside of it.....few months back, sold my Premium XBox system (along with games COD4 COD5, couple of w/l controllers, turtle beach headset) and purchased a 80Gb PS3.

3 weeks later they release the PS3 Slim for CHEAPER than I bought the pphat one....AND NOW THIS!!!

I have some serious think to do about what i'm doing with my life. Looks H'awesome, and oh how I miss Xbox Live :(

I thought MW2 came with night vision goggles?

The collectors edition does but the 250GB 360 is only being shipped with the standard edition. To be honest I would rather have a themed Xbox than a set of night vision goggles as im sure the novelty will soon wear off.

*edit* Damn it beaten like a ginger step child!

The Prestige edition does.

lol. I was joking. I was making it seem like a 360 now comes bundled with MW2.

At least I thought it was funny. :/

anyone think its kinda lame how Sony and MS keep pushing different HDD sized consoles like its a big thing? While I am sitting here with 2.5tb of HDD space on my pc that cost me a total of £200.
