'Our colleagues of the site Chilehardware had affirmed that the NVIDIA will be able very to launch a new version of 512 Mb of its 8600GTS from the month of June, a model that will have of this time one bus of memory of 256 bits, against the 128 bits of the current already tested and retestadas plates 8600GTS.'

Why did they bother with the 128bit ones if this is the case.

Interesting, that should lift the game a little on what looked like a poor outing for the new mid range from nvidia.

Sweet. Hopefully this will cure the horrible fps. Wonder if the price will be better by then. Cause the 8800GTS is pretty damn cheap at the minute.

Am I the only one who still can't see this being a good buy with the alternatives? It'd have to be somewhere between £140 (128bit 8600GTS) and £170 (8800GTS), which doesn't leave a lot of options.

they would have to stop making the 128bit version as it would be point less
£20-30 more and u get a 8800gts if it was priced at £120 then it will be a good buy

Though nvidia don't like cutting prices, I can see the 256bit 8600s sitting at the current price point of the 128 versions, with those 128bit versions dropping £10-£20.

That said it might be interesting to see what happens in certain games at certain resolutions when a 512mb 8600gts takes on a 320mb 8800gt.

they also whould increase the streme process or count to 48 or 64. sticking with 32 is a little low and 48 or 64 would fill the gap nicely between the 8600gts and the 8800gts.

still needs to drop in price though.

30 quid is not enough not to just get a 8800 GTS

We'll see what happens about this. I remember when the X1600XT was said to be such a a cripple due to it's 128bit mem interface. Rumours sprouted that an updated X1600XT would appear with a 256bit mem interface later on, but that never happened.

First the better drivers, then the fixed 8600 GTS.

NVidia read the forum imho :D .

Own up, who works for NVidia here?

After asking my uncle a few months back (works for intel + nvidia) i learnt that there are some people from all the major hardware companies that do read many various forums. :)

I doubt just a 256bit memory bus upgrade would be enough to make the 8600gts compete, may just about out do the x1950pro but not by much.

I think a DX10/256mb or 512mb/256bit/64 stream processor/highly clockable midrange card from nvidia at about 130 quid would be a killer, would most likely beat the 7900gtx/x1950xtx (like 7600gt > 6800 ultra) and probably do pretty well with DX10 games too (especially if you only game at 1280x1024).

Not to mention viral marketers employed by the companies and organisations such as AEG. Anandtech forums have them, Guru3D forums have them, and I would bet my hat that this forum has at least two of them.

REJOICE!!!
FInally a decent mid range DX 10 card!
Since I can't get a dual slot card this is just music to my ears!
This really will be faster than the 7950 GT and the X1950 PRO now...

Combine 512MB of VRAM, over a 256 bit bus, all running at the follicle loosening 2GHz - that is a recipe for an extremely fast card!
