256mb 6800xt cant beat 128mb 6600gt?!?!

Is this right, using 3d mark 06 ive tried to (i thought it would walk it) see how much better a xfx 6800xt 256mb is to my old xfx 6600gt 128mb and its not even getting close!
I know they are both reletivly low end cards but i thought surely the 6800 would be an improvement?

I must just add that 6600 was completley different system, im only looking at the sm 2.0 and 3.0 scores.

Is thier anything i should know about the abit an8 32x board im using or any common probs to do with graphics, have i accidentaly changed a setting hindering performance?
Ive played with it all afternoon and cant make any improvements without oc'ing. Only odd thing i notice is 3dmark detects 11mhz gpu speed which it obviously isnt, i thought maybe a power problem but its all connected.

What do you guys reckon?

6800XT 350mhz core 1000mhz mem 8 pipeline
6600GT 500mhz core 1000mhz mem 8 pipeline

6600GT isn't far off a 6800NU which is 325mhz core(i think) 700mhz mem 12 pipeline

Ebay on monday then for the xt, maybe ill stop being a tight ass and buy a proper graphics card

some pretty good cards out now for reasonable money, take a look at the X850XT or 7600GT's

if thats a agp 6800xt then i would give it a go at unlocking the extra vertex shaders and pipelines. who knows, you may get lucky and end up with a full unlock at 16x6. then lets see how the 6600gt fairs.

As he has it in an Abit AN8 32x I'd hazard a fairly substantial guess that its PCIe

ii do have just a boggo 6800 coming that im gonna try in sli but so dissapointed with performance of this card prob wont bother.

maybe unrelated but ive tried to use ntune but system tune says i need nforce 2 or later to work, well obviously a8n 32x is nforce 4 anyone know what the crack is there or even be related

ive uninstalled reinstalled a few times now just to make sure.

first abit mobo ive had and def not as straight forwad as asus ones im used to.
