Is their a chance i can get a monitor around 24" that is fairly decent for gaming, i dont want to spend too much really, as i'm buying an entire new computer at the end of the month. I'm after 1080p resolution, i mostly will use for games/movies, and my budget is £250.

As you can see my current monitor is just too low resolution to be honest, thats the only reason i'm changing it, i do like the quality picture tho.

I appreciate the help guys, i really do, i decided to change the wanted size to a 24" because 26" isn't worth it at my price range.

I'm afraid that budget is a bit low for any 26" monitor at the moment, let alone a good one. You could have a look at the Iiyama ProLite E2710HD, but I don't know a lot about it. Do you not find 24" adequate? That would extend the range enormously for your budget.

Edit: Somebody beat me to it with the Iiyama :p Looks like your best bet given that review.

which 24" would you recommend?

I would actually still be tempted by the 27"er. Think about it - All of the 24" screens in that price range use the same panel type (TN) as the 27" so the picture quality will be very similar across the board. I think you should have another look at it - it might not the best brand but I think it is actually pretty decent. 2ms response time as well.

I think that I would go for it just because of the extra size it would offer when it came to watching films. Although it depends how far away from it you'll be as to whether that would be a consideration or not? But for me, I would go for the extra real-estate.

There are a few I would consider, but there are advantages and disadvantages to all of them -

1) Acer S243HL. It is a new monitor with an LED backlight and is very slim and stylish. Because the backlighting is LED, the monitor offers excellent contrast and brightness. Some people say the colours are a bit off for certain things (perhaps this would be more important if you were to do photography work rather than movies or games, though).

2) Dell G2410 . Although it might look a bit plain, the image quality is supposed to be very good with accurate colours. It also has an LED backlight for enhanced contrast and brightness. 5ms response time may look bad on 'paper' compared to the 2ms you can get elsewhere, but people claim ghosting is not noticeable on this monitor.

3) Samsung SyncMaster 2443BW . Very good image quality, but looks are again a little on the plain side. Doesn't feature an LED backlight, but people still say the contrast/brightness is too high on default settings and that they need to turn it down. 5ms response time but no reported ghosting in reviews.

I am sure other people will have more suggestions. I also know that ViewSonic and Samsung are going to release some new LED-backlight monitors in April time (with any luck) so it might be worth holding out for a while (but not essential).

P.S. I have read some more reviews of the Iiyama ProLite E2710HD and it sounds as if you wouldn't regret the purchase if you're after a 27" monitor.

^^

I bought the Acer S243HL and sent it back as it was awful. I replaced it with an Iiyama 27" which was far superior in every way.

Sweet, thank you guys for the very quick replies, (even the community here is responsive), i decided to go with the Iiyama ProLite E2710HDSD 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor.

I probably will not regret it thanks a lot guys 5 stars haha.

Mines the B2712HDS, but I think there is minimal difference, bar the connections and stand.

Had it just over a week and I'm very happy :)

i cant wait, i should have just brought it altogether with my hole system at the end of the month, i spose that would have saved on P&P but i want it now lol.

That's interesting. What exactly was wrong with it? Was it colour related? I haven't been (un)fortunate enough to test/review the monitor myself but that does sound pretty dire.

Pretty much not being able to get the colours looking right across multiple sources was the main problem. I could get the Windows desktop looking acceptable, but it would make my Xbox 360 look awful.

Also, I saw no advantage to the LED backlighting over any other LCD monitor I have owned (in terms of IQ), so the price of the monitor is seriously unjustified IMO.
