I currently game on an old 23" TN Panel 1080p Samsung Syncmaster 2333HD, it performs just fine for my usage running at 1080p 60hz. However it's getting on & the colour reproduction & contrast isn't great, we need a TV for my daughters room and it occurred to me that this would be perfect given that it's a TV along with a monitor so thought I may aswell change my monitor whilst i'm at it.

I'm really not into fast paced FPS shooters, my current games of choice are or I have recently played through are -

  • Eve Online
  • Space Engineers
  • Resident Evil 2 & 3 Remake
  • Forza 7
  • Total War Attilla
  • Assasins Creed Odyssey
I'm eyeing up a Samsung LC27R500F which is a curved 27" 1080p 60hz Monitor but is a VA panel so i'd hope looks nicer in terms of colour & contrast, i'm a little worried about it maybe being too big for 1080p though?

Opinions?

What budget you have?
There's good choise of 27" 2560x1440 at reasonable prices.
(both IPS and VA)

VA has the way highest contrast of LCDs making it great if you prefer dimmer room lightning.
But it also has slower than others response times in some darker transitions.
Though no doubt current ones are still better than that ancient cheapo.

Unfortunately 1440p isn't an option, i'm running an overclocked AMD RX580 and an overclocked i5-3570k (4.4GHz i think) with 16GB RAM, at 1080p I can still crank the settings right up in the likes of RE3 and it run at 60FPS without a problem, not willing to compromise on that for 1440p which I'm sure will require me to spend additional on a new card or start dropping settings.

Budget is around £200.

I had a play around on the 9 year old 37" 1080p Samsung that we have in the bedroom this evening, and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. I think i'll cope just fine with a 27", it would be horrific i'm sure without Anti-Aliasing though.
