27" iMac as monitor with 5850?

I am possibly going to get a 27" iMac and I already have a gaming PC with a 5850. I read around and some cards apparently have problems using the iMac as an external monitor. Has anyone managed to do it with a 5850? Cheers

I too would like to know. From what I read it not possible to to connect a pc to an iMac without lots of complicated cables, and then you can't match the resolution? Im eyeing up an iMac and this is something that worries me.

To use it as an external monitor, your GFX has to have DisplayPort.

i use a 24" acd on pc... i use a geforce gt120

cant show linkas they sell pc stuff.... but look for

NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro (early 2009)

same as 27" just need the mini display port enabled graphics.........

you can't use a displayport to mini displayport adapter on the ati 5xxx series - it won't work

your options include:

xfx single slot 5770 (with mini disiplayport)
5870 eyefinity edition (with mini displayport)
palit gtx 470 / zotac 460 / 4870 / 4890 with 'dislayport to female mini displayport adapter' (google it)

I have tested all the above with an apple cinema display 24"

if you haven't got one of those cards (your 5850 is not compatible) then you'll need an atlona dvi to mini displayport adapter
