27" iMac - talk to me about it.

I've got an old system (E6420 C2D, 6Gb RAM, Win 7 HP, 1Tb HDD, big box, custom watercooled etc) and a friend has just offered me his 27" iMac for sale. My worry is that it only has 4 USB ports, one FW800 port, 1 audio in and out and basically isn't easily upgradeable.

I mainly use my PC for digital photography and have a MBP too,so OSX isn't as daunting. The large display, small footprint, i5 CPU and faster GPU all appeal massively. But, I'm worried about:

Running out of USB ports, currently using 6 (Ipod, card reader, mic for Skype, mouse, external backup HDD, keyboard)
Limited upgradability, no USB3 or eSATA
Runing out of HDD space

So, how do you iMac users manage everything, especially the photographers, how do you manage your photography workflow, storage and backups?

Thanks.

Not sure on all Imacs but mine has bluetooth keyboard and mouse so no need for usb for those unless you want to use 3rd party ones. Also if you use sd cards, then Imacs also have a sd card reader built in. i think there is a microphone built in too but not sure as don't have the need for one.
If you do run out you could just use a small usb hub - i have one from my PC I have used.

I use mine for photography and definately found the screen so much better than most seperate lcd monitors. Disk wise really depends on how much you do! I have a 1Tb drive and only have it half full after installing apps and raw files from 8 megapixel slr.
Workflow is done in Lightroom, or you could try Apples Aperture - free trial on their website.

Hope that helps.

Backups I just use an external usb drive and the built in Time Machine app which seems to work very well.

There's a card reader built in and a microphone. The mouse and keyboard are wireless. So you'll only need the iPod and external HDD plugged in. No USB3 or eSATA, but there is firewire. Running out of HDD space, you've already got one external HDD... buy more.

I only need 3 of the 4 USB port. 1 for CF card reader. 1 for iPod and 1 for external HDD. Mouse and keyboard are bluetooth and there's a built-in SD card reader.
