2900pro performance over 2 2600xt

I agree. My m8's 550Watt golden Q-Tec effort lasted 1 week. Never took anything with it but it was funny to see a 250watt boot the FX57 (it was years ago).

Gareth in all honesty. Stay away from it but if you think it's safe then fair doo's. It's your system .

Q-tec's were/are so bad OcUK shop stopped selling them! 2005/2006 there were literally 100s of posts every week about these hazardous PSUs!

They fail & take out other components (a known fact)! But if you think that's bad, they draw a ridiculous amount of Watts to produce very little! E.g. the 650W PSU struggled to put out 350W, drawing double that from the mains!

Just invest in a 80+ (efficiency) rating PSU like the Corsair mentioned & it should last you several upgrades maybe even a lifetime in this 'hobby' :) & if anything goes wrong (not all are perfect even £200 ones), you can rest assured it won't damage anything else.

EDIT: See here :( Also here (posted by AndyOcUK - OcUK Tech)

I find it very surprising that some people still don't know that a quality PSU is one of, if not THE most important component in the system.

over a year ive had it, on many motherboards and graphic cards. so if it was gonna fail it would have failed by now.

gareth please do yourself a huge favour and do some reading up on computers, power supplies etc. The Q-tecs are known for being the cheapest, nastiest PSU's can get, it's not a case of "will then fail", it's more a case of "when they fail". Their internal components are absolutely horrible quality, I mean really bad, and the only reason yours hasn't popped yet is because you haven't given it enough load to make it go boom, and trust me you give it enough sustained load and it WILL go boom. I quesiton the sanity of anyone willing to risk hundreds of pounds of computer hardware by running a £20 PSU, it's the bigest noob mistake in the book.

But a Corsair HX620 before it's too late, it'll be the best £80 you spend on your rig.

Oh and also you can edit your posts using the "edit" button instead of double/triple posting. :)

I dont get this, sure its important to get a quality PSU, but how is it the most important thing in the system, I mean everything is really, you PC wont work with no CPU or no ram in, or even no graphics card will it?

It's the most important because it's the only component that can fail massively and take the rest of your system with it in a disaster of epic proportions. So much hinges on it becaus it is taking huge amounts of electricity and supplying it to all of your system components, thus needs to be incredibly stable and robust. If you use your noggin it's really pretty logical. :)

Yep, no other component has the chance of taking so many others with it should it fail.

seems like u think people are made of money... willhub said get a Corsair HX520W which is £68.14 which i haven't got £68.14 and your saying get a Corsair HX620 which is £93.99, whats next? a £160 psu??? why not a
OcUK Huntkey 550W PSU ? oh let me guess to cheap???and as for you saying "please do yourself a huge favour and do some reading up on computers" u have no right in saying that, i know a lot about computers, i agree maybe not much on psu's.

i already know how to edit my posts, but theres not rule saying i can't double/triple posting....

Look at my rig, 2900xt, overclocked C2D, 3gb ram, sucking more power than youts proberbly gareth, get a HX520W, it'll power your rig nicely, but if you want to stick with the Qtec, stick with it, just keep in mind what people have told you about them.

Chill dude I didn't mean any offence... just get a 520w then, it will be fine for your system. What you do with your PC is completely up to you and always will be, it's just you can't underestimate the importance of a good PSU. It's a critically underlooked part of your system, and if you buy the right one it will be the one component that won't need to be upgraded for a while yet so it's a good investment. The Corsairs are truly fantastic PSU's.

Fair enough, it's just forum netiquette.
