It dies. Generally after a couple of months.

It's frankly crap. Don't bother. :(

Plus - as it's now been dropped by Crucial - you're apparently likely to get 4x512mb sticks in return for an RMA as a 'goodwill gesture' as it's no longer made so it's out of it's lifespan. :rolleyes

Go with OCZ or something like that.

I was going to get some of this stuff too but got put off by the amount of negative threads - and not just from the OcUK forums either. Anandtech did a review and said about it: "One word of caution: some users have been killing their Crucial Ballistix 2GB kits. It appears that the culprit is high memory voltages. We did a survey of a number of Forums and found that, in most cases, the memory was dying at voltages of 2.85V and higher."

I'm not entirely convinced it's only that to be honest, but In the end I went with Mushkin Redline. Basically because for whatever reason, Crucial has discontinued production now so I would assume if anything does happen to your Ballistix they're going to become pretty hard to replace with a like kit.

The Anand memory review is here if you want to read it: http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2676&p=1 Basically they would have given the Ballistix top marks but didn't because it's not widely available, so instead awarded joint gold to Mushkin Redline XP4000 and OCZ PC4000 2x1024 EB Platinum :)

Supposedly Crucial has been working on a new batch of Ballistix that is just arriving and are supposed to be getting rid of the problems that so many have experienced. So, either wait for those to come around, or get something proven like Mushkin Redline or some G.Skill.
