Which of the 2 would you recommend? The 2Gb Team DDR2 PC2-6400 Xtreem Micron 4-4-4-10 or the 2Gb G.Skill DDR2 PC2-6400 HZ?
They are going to be going a in Gigabyte DS4 board. Both seem to be able to clock to about the same but the Team is around £20 cheaper. Which would you go for in a DS4 ? :)

£20 is £20 m8.

I have the HZ btw, but going by the results.

1 other consuideration is warranty though, GSkill are very very good with problems, i don't know anything about Team Xtreme's RMA service

what about the Geil ULL PC6400 stuff thats on this week only.....that is meant to be good memory also and at the moment is realy cheap. I bought the HZ last week and am tempetd to change it to the Geil and save £60:confused:

well i had some of the geil, it would only do 440 at 5-5-5-15, thought it kinda sucked so i decided to get rid. I know others have had good results with it but it does seem to be a bit hit n miss with it, you either get a good set or you dont

I use Team DDR2 667 3-4-4-8, and its the best ram ive had, though 2GB was only £135 when i bought it in june :D . My first kit had a dud stick and they replace it straight away ( If your buying it from where i think)

Everyone else i know who has bought Team are more than happy.

Mine has done 534Mhz 4-4-4-8 with only 2.1v and thats pretty common.

I also tried the G.skill 6400 because of the hype but it didnt clock as high and cost £50 more at the time.

This may seem a dumb question but if i'm running an E6600 at for instance 3.6GHz then my FSB would be 400MHz i presume (x9 multi).
Wouldn't any DDr2800 RAM run at that speed?

What i'm asking in a roundabout way is what sort of CPU overclocking would I need to justify faster RAM?
Or do we not run 1:1 anymore which i thought was meant to be preferable?
You running RAM faster than the FSB?

(been using AMDs before so went for latencies)

Thanks for your patience...

well you could either run 1:1 with a lower multiplier or on a divider so that the ran runs faster than the fsb

Thanks for the info devious, i went with team, was shipped today so should be with me within the next couple of days :)

Any RAM that runs 1:1 at 400 is fine :) but check out compatibilty of the cheaper rams with your mobo.

Some motherboards allow 4:5 (not P5WDH) so you could be running at 500Mhz which is slightly better than 1:1, there isnt much performance increase tbh

So, did you recieve the ram? Whats the verdict then?

Considering some of this for when the 680i boards get cheaper :D

yeah i got the ram, will do 470mhz 4-4-4-10 at 2.1v so im happy. to get 500mhz i put timings to 5-5-5-15. Im thinking with a different board id get much better results. all the 500mhz+ reults ive seen have been with asus boards
