Just brought this bundle;

* 1 x Asus P5K Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
* 1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
* 1 x Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

I am running vista home premium atm, and game quite a lot, was wondering whether it was worth it getting the extra 2GB of the same ram above. The PC is running fine atm, but was just thinking what it would be like on 4GB?

Thanks

I'd still recommend 4GB, but you'll only see 3+. The missing bits are consumed by memory mapping by attached devices, such as graphics cards, etc. Still a performance boost even if not all 4 are available.
Given the price of DDR2 atm, you should strongly consider it. btw, you should also try to match what you have already - mixing different types, even with the same spec, is asking for trouble mate :).

If your getting 4gb get vista 64 bit. The ability to add extra memory is not the only reason why 64bit is faster. Infact 64bit needs more memory because of the way it handles data is achualy faster but requires more space. Hence needing more then 2gb of ram. But its a lot faster and snappery.

What is the actual difference between 32 and 64 bit, and yea if i get the extra 2GB then I would get exactly the same stuff as I have already.

Thanks

64bit handles data differntly. This makes it faster but the data packages are made bigger because of this. Therefore it is more of a nessecity to have more ram with 64bit but the pc will be faster. Not to menchen the fact that 4gb is obiously faster then 2gb. The way 64bit manages memory space for differnt programs is also better i beleive.
