just deciding whether to go the whole hog and get 4gb of ram (through OcUK obviuosly not apple) or whether the difference will be unnoticable? maybe too much overkill and might as well keep my money?

if it would be of decent advantage, for just over 100 squid you're laughin :)

I find 2Gb is fine for what I use PS for, both on PC and Mac. Never noticed any slowdown really, but then I don't go for the whole filter heavy approach.

if i go for 4gb i will have to hold out for a bit on the 7200rpm hdd... which do you think will supply a more noticable performance gain?

i.e. 4gig ram and standard HDD or 2gig ram and 7200rpm HDD?

toughy...

Definitely the 4GB of RAM.

7,200prm HDD is hardly going to make a difference unless your doing video encoding and loads of file transfers.

Although 2GB is more than enough for Photoshop imo.

here is an interesting site people: https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/Macbook_Pro_15_Memory_Benchmarks

it illustrated the difference hdd and memory upgrades make in the MBP, interesting to note that with 1GB of memory, the hdd plays a big part in the speed, but with 4GB of ram, the hdd speed becomes a moot point... :) (i'm assuming thats past a certain point where the page file is no longer being used or summat?)
