£2k per Week to Live in Old Peoples' Home!

My grand parents are moving into an old peoples' home and they will be charged £2k per week to live there!

Is this not an utter disgrace? They are not entitled to state assistance since they have more than £10 to their name.

Why should they be entitled to state assistance? Why should the state pay for their care?

That really does sound like an awful rip-off. Surely there must be somewhere else and some sort of aid?

Its not mate, its what a decent home costs these days, we went the full time nurses route at first and its worse.

Saying that it depends how much actual care they need, my cousin poor cow needs everything done for her.

That's why it's worth putting your property(ies) into a trust/company structure then you legally don't own the assets :D

Known a few friends of the family to basically blow most of their money on holidays/gifts to the family and then rent for a bit before going into a home - tax man can't touch it then!

The state is trying to treat everyone in their own home by providing home care, if your G parents have chosen to live there as a lifestyle choice then yes they should pay, iirc anyone with above £16k has to pay for care homes, if their health dictates these are the best places for them if not they will be entitled to treatment at home only

£104k a year

Whats happened to this country, seriously.

It must be a very posh retirement home with Michelin star food.

This country? I doubt this country is the only one with expensive elderly care. I think it's a case of the OP finding a cheaper care home or some financial assistance.

I wonder how much of that cash will actually be going towards the wages of the people on the ground delivering the care.

£2k a week is seriously mental, surely employing a full time nurse at home would be much cheaper? They can't be on more than a few hundred a week?

What?! what has it got to do with the state of the country.
Its called a freemarket economy. The price is what the market will bear. If you can do better make your own care home. You will make a hell of a lot of money, we aren't running out of old people any time soon.
Otherwise stop talking crap.

LMFAO. if my mum askes me to pay £800+ a week for her care i would laugh in her face...

Plus my missus would go mental at me...

She can bloody well sit at home and wait for the normal free care workers to help

Private nursing home I assume?

Sit her on a commode, give her £50 a week and a take away menu for some cheap and nasty chip shop down the road. Obligations as a son complete.
