£2k per Week to Live in Old Peoples' Home!

My grand parents are moving into an old peoples' home and they will be charged £2k per week to live there!

Is this not an utter disgrace? They are not entitled to state assistance since they have more than £10 to their name.

I own a care home and our rates start from £398 per week, to pay £2000 per week it would have to be a specialist nursing home or something akin to a 5 star hotel. Its all about value for money so without any details about the care required its hard to say if thats a fair price.

Things that may affect price is the staffing, qualified nurses and doctors. For just health care assistants, your getting bent over my friend and having your temperature taken German stylee.

Why do you think Car insurance is so expensive?

When people have car accidents, one of the BIGGEST payout from the insurance companies is their care and assistance claim. To pay for their life time care, if they need 24 hours care, for the entire life time....

Think...How much does a nurse get paid a year.

£25,000 ?

At 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, you will need 3 shifts a day to cover 24 hours.

That's £60k a year in nursing care, multiply that to say life expectancy to 65, for the sake of argument, the Claimant was 25 when the accident happened. 4 years.

That is £2.4 Million in care and assistance (without taking into account inflation, family help etc)

It's not £2k a week to live, its £2k a week to care.

25k for someone who has hardly any experience, your looking closer to 30k, for a nurse who has the experience and knowledge to take on 24hour care.
So for a full year your looking at 90k plus that is not factoring in cover for when a given nurse is on holiday.

Love how lots of people seem to think they have an entitlement to others people money for the luxury of living in a care home.

"They've paid tax all life"

Like it matters? With that logic, the high earners of this country (Some of which pay more tax in a year than you do in a lifetime) should be entitled to free 5* hotel, private driver and free dinners on the state.

I thought it was well established that the amount of tax you pay is directly inproportional to the amount of service you get from the government. Apparently some people have missed the last 50 years or so. You pay tax so there is money to pay for the welfare state ---> i.e supporting the people who don't pay tax.
