Hey guys,

im struggling abit here, been out yesterday looking at cars for £5k as a 2nd car.

Currently own a mk3 golf 1.6 CL 5 door and looking for something as quick (not hard) or slightly quicker... (dont want to downgrade)... but i'd like something newer as mine is now 10 years old and get the feeling its starting to show its age :)

Suggestions as to a new car would be greatly appreciated, so far i've considered:

Astra
Focus
Megan
leon
Golf mk4

incase you cant tell i dont want to up-size my car too much so please dont suggest an old 5 series or something :p

i've not ruled the above cars out but what am i missing ? (all of the above are abit boring:()

Looking at your list it seems you want a hatchback, but have you considered a car like the Bora or Toledo (saloon version of the Golf and Leon respectively)?

Some people say they don't look as good but when the choices are hardly pant wettingly good looking and you can get a lot more for your money.

Is insurance a big issue? If not you could pick up a 2002 Clio 172 (phase 2) for £5k. A damn sight quicker that your current motor, half it's age, and fantastic handling to boot. IG16 though so depending on where you live and your what your NCD is, insurance cost could be prohibitive.

0NCB :/ and i live in Nottingham - fairly good area, will go grab a quote now :)

like the idea though :)

£1200 in my name, and found a car for £4,200 so its got potential - save on the car and spend more on the insurance

defo one to look at thanks for the idea!!!, keep em coming :)

Stay away from Meganes.

Out of that list, i'd say the Leon (Make it a Cupra of course) or a Focus.

Alfa 147. Not a cheap car to run though.

My current stead is a MK3 Driver on the verge of 130K :)

Think a Leon isn't a bad buy - just a bit of an ugly Mk4 Golf IMO.

No probs chap, just make sure you have a test drive of one. Even if you come away not wanting one you'll have had fun :)
