¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My daily driver (205 turbo derv) is nice on the road, but is a bit useless on the track. It's kinda fun, but not very fast.

Now I would like to get a 205 mi16 as a trackday only car, but I don't really want to pay the extra road tax and insurance for a cvar that's going to be sat on the drive most of the time... so would it be possible to tow it to tracks or something like that? Or is it not worth the hassle, and maybe easier to hire a car for the occasional trackday? Or maybe I could tune the nuts off the derv, and prevent people from overtaking by making huge plooms of black smoke. :D

You don't need a fast car for the track, just play with yours a bit.

Enfield from these forums fitted the front GTi shocks, springs and brakes from a 1.9 GTi onto his TD.

Well I already have front GTi shocks on mine as standard, and I've got some eibach springs which lower the front a bit... I need to lower the rear beam really. I also need an anchor upgrade as my solid discs have faded on the road, and trackdays are always hard on brakes - vented ones from a GTI are a straight swap, and don't upset your front/rear braking balance which is nice. I'm running the GTI wheels tho which allow nice wide 195mm tyres for extra grip, even tho they do weigh a bit more than the standard wheels. :)

I think I'll fettle with the derv a bit... that way I can drive to and ON the track. My mate in his mi16 is going to be much faster tho, but at the end of the day, it's all about having fun, and I don't take it too seriously. Right now it's 75hp, but with some tweaks and an intercooler, it might be able to get 90 or so HP, and more torque aswell. :)

It's a shame I can't swap engines at the side of the road... It would be lovely to have an Mi16 for the track, and a derv for the road. It's a bit more involved than changing a wheel tho. :D

Well....

Diesel: Reliable (even tho it's french!), cheap to insure, and does 500 miles on a tank.

MI16: Not-so-reliable, and it's an engine conversion, which means much higher insurance (group 16 instead of group 8) . But it's got over twice the horses compared to the diesel, which means it's rather quick. :)

So really, I want the derv as my daily driver, and the Mi16 for tracks and weekends. That way, even if the Mi16 breaks down, i've still got the diesel runaround. Now if I could change engines as quick as an F1 team then it would be problem solved, but it's not that easy... fuel tank has to be flushed thru, battery has to go in the boot... you'd have a job to do it in 1 day. You cannot have your cake and eat it I guess. :(

I think I'll fettle with the derv for now... I'm skint enough as it is right now, so that last thing I need is another car.
