That's because they're dual GPU cards. So crossfire / SLI on one board. e.g the 6990 is 2 6970 GPU's.

You'd be pushing it with your PSU plus those cards are horribly overpriced and very noisy. Also they are often downclocked versions of the original GPU. They're not really desirable cards at all unless space is an issue.

Yeah i just looked at prices of the 6990, not even gonna bother looking at 590 prices lol, you could build a semi decent rig for the prices the 6990 are at lol.

Im loving the look of the 7970 prices on OCuk, i like the MSI lightning but its 85 quid more than a stock 7970.

Are you handy at DIY? You can build a cheap 6 monitor stand for about 50 quid from plumbing pipe and a few other bits. The MSI lightnings would generally be better clockers but that's not guaranteed. They would be a good bit cooler and quieter though.

Yeah im very good at DIY, use to be a tiler and bathroom fitter, plumbing pipe is an old friend lol. I get why the lightning is 85 quid more, custom cooler and the big overclock. I do like it a lot.
