sorry its a bit long, but im soo angry and confused.

Ok, my previous setup was a athlon x2 + dfi lanparty + mushkin ddr, which i had nicely overclocked to 2.8. never had any issues, apart from now and again having to reset cmos if i tried to push it too far. it never died basically.

a month ago i thought, right its time for some intel conroe overclocking, sold all my old kit and forked out for:-

e6750
ocz 8500 reaper
gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r
----existing kit----
ocz 600w gamestream
infinity cooler

all of my attempts to overclock have not gone well. on average i have managed to get:-

3.2gig 1.4v
~415fsb 1.5v nb
memory ~1200 5-5-5-15 2.4v

ran the same old tests orthos, and memtest 86 for over 5 hours on the overclock. very stable, temps good, below 50c. but then sometimes i would just leave the pc on overnight, and it would just be asleep in the morning, i had to power it off, then it would reboot 3 times until it had reset itself back to default. then would not accept any overclock for a few hours, then it would again, but still the same thing happened.

anyway, eventually the mobo would not revive itself, and even the cmos reset, taking out the battery and leaving for a day would not solve it.

i have swapped out all components to another machine, they all work fine, so i put it down the the mobo, so i bought another gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r, and installed it, everything booted up fine (rma-ed other one). Then this one had a similar fate. !!!!!!!!!!!!! so i then purchased MSI p35 platinum, now after only one day this is not not booting, and will not reset itself!!

could it be possible the ram or cpu is responsable for these mobo deaths, i.e. drawing too much power or some kind of thing?? i now have no cash left and 3 dead mobos!!!! and obviously no working pc(apart from my laptop here)

anyone else got a clue what might be going wrong, and before you say it, ive not not put too much volts through these mobos, they have all been just above stock, or inline with online reviewers overclock attempts.

thanks for reading, looking forward to some useful comments.

from the ocz site :

warranty up to 2.35v

so if you've put 2.4 through it, there might be some issue from it.

any chance there is an issue with the psu ?

UPDATE i have managed to get the pc back up and running at default, but with different memory, so maybe the mem is at fault?

thanks for your reply, well about the mem voltage, it was registering 2.3 in speedfan and everest, so maybe a voltage drop from the board?? is it possible for there to be a fault with it if memtest runs fine? ie, like a random error?

with the psu, i guess it could be at fault, but im not sure how to test, all the voltages seem spot on (as near as you can expect) and its got plenty of cooling, never gets hot, and i never get hard power offs, and its quite a decent model i think? never played up on my old setup. although i do have a lot to power.

8800gts 320
5x120m fans
1x250m fan(i have an antec 900 case)
1xsystem blower
2xhdd
couple of usb things, ie keyboard and mouse, wireless.

seriously i would consider cutting down on the fans.

cannot see any reason for needing that many fans, check the temps as it is, then strip it down to a front and rear fan and see what differences you get.

with the psu it might possibly be spiking, you said that you swapped all the components to another machine, was the only difference the case or psu as well ?

noticed u had the memory running at 1200 but in the spec u say its ocz 8500, if its 8500 drop the speed down to 1066 or just under (normal 8500 levels), always a chance it might be a memory glitch if its running with different memory.

try running with 1 stick at a time see if you have issues with both sticks or just one in particular.

ive rma-ed the memory now to try to rule that out.

think i will cut down the fans a bit, also im thinking of getting a zalman fan control unit to power everything from the psu rather than mobo, maybe its drawing too much power from the mobo.

i guess running the memory at stock wont really make too much difference to performance, as its fairly quick as standard.

when i swapped the components out i did use the same psu, but i dont have another one to test, and they are soo expensive for good ones. i should think though for its power output it should coupe?? but maybe it does have random spikes, would it be better to get a really good power extender -4 gang thing?

the psu is a good one, when you tested it was the system plugged into the same socket in the wall or a different one, maybe a power surge from the socket.

are the mobo stands setup right, not shorting etc ?
