Well, I've had my 360 since December '05, so ive done pretty well to have no troubles with it, until today...

I suppose i knew it was coming with a couple of crashes the last few times i used it. Came to play my newly bought Bioshock, it froze on boot screen. Switched it off and back on and bingo! 3 red lights.

After doing some reading on the forums i found that they now offered a 3 year warrenty on three red lights, so i rang Microsoft CS, went through the steps they wanted, such as unplugging the cables etc. After all of that the 4th red light lit up. I was then informed that because it was now 4 lights i would have to pay the repair costs as the extended warrenty only covered the three light error.

How unlucky is that!

Not really sure what to do now. Just needed somewhere to vent. Seen these posts all to often and for whatever reason i believed that I was lucky with my console.

Ahh well :(

I'm sure I read somewhere recently that four red lights meant that the power cable wasn't in properly - I LOL'd becasue it said there were loads of people sending back thier consoles to MS thinking it was borked when all they had to do was push the cable in a little :D

Yeah I got 4 red lights after getting mine repaired, scared the hell outta me, but it went away after pressing all the cables in and restarting..!

Try and get three red lights back up, as soon as you manage it, turn it off and phone MS quoting the three red light error ;)

How can it scare you guys?! :p

Ooooo Christ! That scared! *Jumping half way accross the room in shock*

Hehe!

I have had 4 red lights, just make sure the cables are plugged in properly, if it still happens try a different cable.

I think i had 3 red lights one but just restarted and it was fine. I have also had a BSOD thing also.

4 Red lights comes up when the video cable isnt plugged in...Sounds like theyre trying to catch out the unsuspecting making them take all the cables out then when people get the 4 red lights due to the video cable being unplugged refusing to repair the original 3 red light problem...Or it could be typical call center lack of knowledge.

Yep 4 red lights is not a hardware failure per se its just the consoles way of saying that it doesn't detect a AV output. Of course if everything is plugged in fine then it coul dbe a sign there is an issue with the AV output and so would be a hardware failure :o

I have had mine do it a couple of times however it was just the fact I didn't have my AV cable in properly.

Mind you I almost had a fit the other week when I noticed my 360 was showing the three red lights of death when I turned it on. Little did I know we had had a power cut which caused it to have a head fit.
