I've seen an interesting deal on the Dell 3007WFP. I obviously can't mention prices. But it's refurbished and can be had for only a little more (less than £100) more than a new 2407. It's quite tempting. Are there any big downsides for a gamer with the 3007 compared to the 2407?

How is ghosting, lag, etc?

Thanks...

Main downside is you will need to have an uber rig to run stuff acceptably at the native res. 8800GTX or GTS (not 320MB) would be nice, preferably SLI'd. At the bare minimum you will need a dual link DVI card to run at the native resolution at all.

Thanks for that. I have a 7800 GTX 512 EE (very fast in its day but obviously not up there with the best anymore). I realise this won't be anywhere near good enough for games at a native res. But I'd be happy to run non-native until an upgrade later in the year.

Hmmm I see what you mean. But resolution aside, are there other significant losses by going so large... e.g. significantly worse ghosting or lag?

The 3007 is a good deal as its refurbished. But the 2707 wouldn't be. It would be a lot more expensive than this 3007.

However good a deal this is, it sounds like I'd be better going the 2407 route. Thanks for the input.

I currently have a 19" normal aspect TFT - Viewsonix VX912 (and a superb 21" CRT but I rarely use that now). So a 24" will still be a great upgrade.

Ooops, bit of an impulse buy but I just ordered a brand new 3007WFP-HC. If I find I don't get on with it then I can always return it or possibly even sell it on (got it for a very good price).
