So I'm willing to take a compromise in usability, in order to make my ps3 and movies look better. However Does anyone use a TV as a monitor?

Just wondering if it's actually useable when sat less than 3 foot from it?

(Lack of space dictates I can only have one screen)

I use a 1080p tv as my monitor, sitting about 3 foot away and its fine.

The pixel density is much lower of course but I think it works pretty well.

No idea how a 720p would look as a monitor as well...

you will need a decent model due to response timings, i currently have an LG 32sl8000 and i love it, sorts out my pc, ps3 and cable box no issues, i dont get any noticable lag and the picture is perfect. decent models are quite expensive tho. make sure its 1080p

if you dont game on the PC i would still suggest a half decent tv as you will ge the same lag issue with the ps3.

I have my Samsung 6 Series LED tv setup to my computer, it works fantasically for everything except FPS games I find, it has a response time of 5ms and i think i am just too used to 2ms.

I tried using a 720p telly as a monitor for a while, but wouldn't recommend it. The actual resolution is quite low, and it'll drive you spare after a while if you're used to a decent LCD.

Edit - 1280 x 720. It's a big drop from 1680 x 1050 :(

Sorry should have explained. The plan is for it to be used from my sofa 6ft+ away, but also my pc ~2 foot away. Already have a 24" and love it, but would like a big screen and couch combo.

@Harry, 32" 1080p's seem to be 'painfully' expensive though. (Excuse the pun) £300 vs £500.

am using a pansonic viera 32" lcd as my computer screen and just love it also have ps3 connted
am gettin my full screen rez of 1920x1080 via hdmi

I use my Sammy B450 32" LCD as a monitor as I have a little media room in one of the spare bedrooms. Got it for £299 about 3 weeks ago. It's great and looks excellent on my PC, PS3 and 360. I love it, would never go back to a proper monitor. At three feet though, it probably will cause eye strain.

I use a 24'' monitor for gaming and I have a 46'' 1080 LCD as my second screen via HDMI. The output quality on most HD LCD's is comparable to proper PC monitors, they might lose out on the crispness and pixel definition but playing Aion or Empire total War for example looks superb ! :p !

I use my Toshiba 32" Regza Xv55 and play at 1920x1080 thru hdmi on the pc, set me back about £430 June last year, but had a high contrast ratio, takes a bit getting used to a close range but you soon get used to it.
