Having test driven a couple of LCR's around London, I'm finding the ride a bit too firm on the roads I normally go on. So, I've been reviewing my choices (even considered a Range Rover for comfort, and 4x4 ability as I go to scottish islands once a year) and stumbled on this:

BMW 330d Sport Touring

Manual 5 speed gear box

Mileage 47,500.

Car has had a full BMW main dealer service history and benefits from it's last service just recently on 26th Sept. MOT until 26/9/06.

Colour - Topaz Blue Metallic and Anthracite Cloth Interior finished with carbon dash trim

Car in very good condition, and always kept in garage overnight. Does not have any stone chips at front of car. Stunningly pretty vehicle when compared to the SE model.

A very powerful car with superb pulling power in all gears, a real cruiser and pleasure to drive for all uses, everyday motorway to Sunday afternoon trips

BMW Aerodynamic bodystyling with side skirts fitted as standard with integrated fog lamps.

M-Tech finish that include, M Sport 18" spoke alloy wheels, M door trim panels, sports seats.

Alloy wheels do have a few small scuff marks that you would expect from everyday use, but doesn't distract from the cars looks

All tyres are in good condition with plenty of tread.

Many options fitted as standard, which really enhance the car including, 6 CD changer, air con, cruise control, parking sensors, automatic sensing headlights, multi function steering wheel, handsfree set up, electric windows and mirrors, split opening rear tail gate, boot lining protector, dog guard, car mats.

Tracker also fitted - new owner can activate for a £30 transfer fee and annual subscription ( I have not activated as insurance company does not require)

Good motorway car and can average upto 45 miles per gallon on a run. Normal and everyday driving averages 40 miles per gallon.

A genuine reason for sale, otherwise I would keep the car.

He wants £5000 including shipping from Portugal, but I'm wondering if it's a scam or not. It's a UK car, although he's moved there (stolen?). Thoughts?

A 2002 BMW 330D Sport with low miles for £5k? Did you really need to ask? It's almost certainly a scam. Either that or the seller is incredibly stupid or generous. The car is worth at least twice that amount. Even at £10k it would be a bit cheap.

Tell him if he brings the car to the UK with all the relevant documents you'll give him £5,500. The extra £500 should cover his costs quite nicely.

£20 says he can't do this for some reason. ;)

I like your thinking there Merlin, I'll give that a go.

He 'says' that as it's RHD he's struggling to sell it, and he's returned to family there. A mate of mine's just done similar, but he's over here at the moment so I can't get him to view the car for me - might see if I can get his wife to view it though...

Similar LHD one's are going for 20,000 euros over there at the moment (£14,000)!

I did ask about the MOT, and oddly he didn't answer is his reply email :o

Think I'll just follow up with Merlin's suggestion and my mates wife (based in Portugal) for fun now - it's only an email that takes 2 mins to type, and see if I can call his bluff.

Will post his reply ;)

Hmm, not sure if he's called my bluff now.

He's willing to let my Portugese friends view the car and has supplied address and phone numbers.

Should I follow this thorough??????

Would be a bit silly to send your friend's wife to what you expect is a criminal with a non existant car

I share everyone's sceptism on this too. Does the DVLA have some sort of lost/found database that us, joe public, can access?

Go visit your mates wife, if all else fails least you get a dirty weekend.

Just texted her, and they're over here! Still, could fly over and stay at their place on the weekend and drive back.

Still hunting around DVLA's website.

Its too good to be true surely?

Pretty much what I thought when I saw it, as I'm budgeting 10K.

Have asked for VIN details and Engine number, as I'm suspecting it to be a cloned car. If not supplied I'll be walking away.

Update: the car's a clone.

Who do I report this too?

Report it to the DVLA if it is a UK registered car. The police will probably be interested in it too as it's almost certainly stolen.

Of course its a scam, don't even waste your time finding out more. It isn't a 204bhp one either becuase the 2002 models are 184bhp.

Forget all about it, it is a scam, I guarantee you.

Car wasn't reported stolen, the plates were. The engine number and VIN didn't match up to DVLA records. Also, said he had it from new, and the original car has had 2 previous owners.

First and last time I look on Ebay for cars, think I'll stick to autotrader in future. Too many dishonest people in this world.
