360 through monitor

I bought a monitor earlier this year especially for this.
24" 1080p Dell with HDMI.
I think it was only about £140 ish.
Best thing i've done, for the reasons you stated

edit: the monitor has an Audio Out socket (0.9mm ?), the normal one anyway. I run a lead from that to a second input on my speakers.

same here, HDMI to monitor, then sound output from monitor to speakers

Usually that, but i think if your monitor has hdmi you can use that too, i used to use the vga cable and it runs great
