Personally I have never seen it advertised as Wifiready

However technically it is Wifi ready - it's ready to put a wifi adapter onto it :p

'Ready' nowadays seems to mean 'supports'.

HD Ready means it does not have HD material but can support it if provided.

It is WiFi ready, it just requires the adapter to utilise it. It's one of those crafty advertising slogans some retailers use.

I really don't see what the fuss is over. It's wi-fi ready, and has been mentioned in a 100 other threads it supports wi-fi. I don't recall seeing many people bashing the Nintendo DS and it's wifi claims by having to purchase a Nintendo wifi adapter to utilise it fully!

The other move you've got to remember is that wifi isn't built into the Xbox360 ready-to-go for perhaps forward compatibility. I'm sure if it had, there'd be a thousand and one people bashing the fact that it's 802.11a/b/g only and "silly Microsoft" for not supporting 802.11n!

Feel sorry for the guys at MS Xbox at times, they can't seem to please anyone!

The DS is fully WiFi compatible so I'm not sur ewhat you're on about. You can go online anywhere there is a wireless access point.

But to use it with your home wifi network, you need the USB dongle, therefore it IS fully wifi equipped, like ye olde Xbox360, but requires a USB device ala Xbox360.

Nope, mine works with my wireless router, my wireless network card in adhoc mode and at my local McDonalds.

I didn't think the DS used standard IP protocols and it was Nintendos own networking protocol.

Incorrect. 802.11b compliant. I recommend doing your research before slating things in the future.

The propriety standard is only used for direct DS to DS connections. For all online purposes the 802.11 standards are used.

Nintendo's own protocols are used for DS to DS communications only.

For connecting to Nintendo's Wifi Service to play online (Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing Wild World etc...) then standard IP protocols are used with the Wifi in the DS. It is fully wifi enabled from the word go with the hardware built in.

The Nintendo USB stick is only used to give you a wifi access point when you don't have say a wifi enabled router or whatever, and the USB stick plugs into the PC to create an access point.

The XBOX360 on the other hand isn't wifi ready, and that therefore needs the MS USB interface that plugs directly into the rear USB port on the 360. You still then need a wifi router or access point for it to talk to...
