3770K to Ryzen 7 1700x right choice?

Fairly self explanatory from the title I guess.

Currently on a 3770K at 4.2 but getting weird power offs which I don't know what to blame, mobo, PSU, case.

Thinking I can solve the problems by going for new mobo and case as part of the new build.

I game but would like to stream as I play which I can do currently but can't help the upgrade itch and feeling my system could be better. I'm also starting to record tutorial videos for something work based and am using video editor so I guess the extra cores would help with rendering?

Very stuck as what to do, please help.

Is great choice but you must buy at least 3200Mhz if not 3466Mhz compatible ram for the Ryzen motherboard.
Ryzen is very sensitive to ram speed, and benefits from it greatly.
Also you can cut from the budget by getting the 1700 and overclock it, if the price difference between the 1700X is more than £20.
 
Went from a 2500k @ 4.3 to a 1600X. Memory at 3066 c14.

Ark Survival used to eat 99% of CPU. Now it uses 25-35%. Even allowing for your i7 having hyperthreading, there's quite a lot of gain available to you, especially if you go 8 core :)
 
Grab your self one of these. Cheaper than buying the parts individually and a great motherboard and fast RAM.

I put one together on Friday and it was mostly a pain free experience bar a few bugs and RAM clearance issues.

I would but I absolutely despise AIO coolers (add to that I already have a Noctua DH15 waiting for the new build as well.

Wait for 8700K, otherwise it's a good choice except the decreased IPC.

Are you comparing the 1700x o the 8700K or the 3770K in it's current guise with that comment? If a 1700 is an improvement on IPC than what I have now then it's still an upgrade regardless.

There's an increasing confusion on this forum between IPC and single-thread performance... Ryzen is more on a par with Broadwell IPC, I believe, and even though it doesn't quite hit the same clockspeeds, it will deliver very similar single thread performance to your 3770k, and a whole lot more multi thread. If you choose a good motherboard, you will almost certainly be able to drop the next gen Ryzen into it as welll, which hopefully will resolve that clockspeed deficiency :)

Exactly - My Ryzen 1700 @ 3.85GHz when running a single thread is around 7% faster than my I5 2500K @ 4.6GHz on the benchmarks i tried. That would suggest it equals a 4.9GHz Sandy or roughly a 29.5% higher IPC.

Will be a good bit faster than Sandybridge/Ivybridge (although the average isn't as high as 30%). Voidshatter normally talks BS.

The IPC of Ryzen is Broadwel-E level. Haswel has weaker IPC.
The issue with Ryzen are the clock speeds for this generation. Next one we are looking 4.5-4.6 with better IMC.
Saying that AGESA 1007 comes out soon, and if we manage to push the boards to 4000-4500mhz ram, that will improve perf a lot.

Ok fair enough, didn't realise Broadwell made any significant gain on Haswell. Thought it was just a die shrink.
 
if you think next rzen will be 4.5 you dreaming.look at all past refresh and what you realistically achieve.200 mhz more so basically you will be guarenteed more or less 4.0-4.2 with oc.no way will you get 4.5.

with intels new release so close.be stupid not to consider that first.going to be quicker than ryzen thats out now.

Completely disagree - the answer is we dont know, your basing your assumption on what intel did, and they DECIDED to not make major gains, AMD will go all out to hold market share - sure it might not go as high as 4.5 but we just don't know, we have no idea how zen reacts to die shrinks, given its a power efficient design, probably very well.
