3D Gaming- Has anyone jumped on?

Im not at all interested in 3d. 3d is just a phase and will dissapear again....

That is untill they make 3d without the stupid glasses and affordable hardware.

3d without glasses has way to many disadvantages viewing angle, the 3d effect will not look better than stereo 3d with glasses. It will with out doubt evolve but its very very long time away.

I really don't mind wearing the glasses Playing wipeout hd on ps3 is a lot fun and playing Gt5 at Euro gamer expo was amazing. I just hope some stereo 3d monitors start hitting the market so you don't have but any nividia accessories.

ALso dose anyone know if I can use my sony vaio 3dtv with my gtx480's to play black ops in 3d ?

1: i hate 2d after jumping to 3d. once your eyes get used to it, its amazing!
2: when i bought my asus monitor i had a job and to much money so i invested it in it straight away. Did have a try before i buy day and thats what persuaded me.
3: Get 2 460 gtxs. Currently running 1 which cost me £105. Monitor cost me £290 with 3d vision kit (now £370 )
4: only nvidia cards. new ATI cards can play 3d tvs though so if you can get a 3dtv you can play games in 3d but i suspect they aint as good as nvidias support. You can play nearly every game made in 3d. Some have better results than others.

It was my understanding that over time the brain adapts to the 3d tricks and compensates, nullifying the effects. Is this the case? I can't be bothered googling etc.

If that's right, then it's a monumental gimmick.

I'm looking at getting a new monitor soon and I'm thinking should I get one compatible for 3D even if I don't use it for that at present. I've tried a mates Nvidia system a while back playing BF2 and was pretty impressed and can only think it must be even better now what with new 3D drivers and graphics cards. Thing that's at the back of my mind is what if as some do I have problems with headaches/sore eyes etc. It would be wasted money.......

Brilliant. Had it about a year and its still my number one priority when buying games. Ive just been playing Blacks ops in 3d and was still amazed. So much action on screen all in perfect 3d :D Its still looks 3d. I can tell a clear difference between 2d and 3d mode. 3d mode on a game like Metro or Just cause 2 is just drawdropping at times.
Everyone of my friends who is a gamer is amazed too. So i guess theres a very good chance you will be too.
From my experience it has turned out to be expensive but i don't regret it.
Also the bigger the screen the better. a lot more so than with 2d material.
For me 3d has the effect of making the resolution look higher than it is. Which then means 2xaa in 3d looks like 4xaa in 2d. I like this as it allows me to gain a few extra fps.

I have also noticed that i play a lot worse in 3d when playing fps games. This is because of the vsynch that i normally have off. Also the game only runs at a max of 60fps. It is harder to spot people to. I guess this is because not everything is in focus at the same time like in 2d. This means i still play mp fps games that i take seriously in 2d at 120hz.

Lcd monitors also have a problem with cross talk. This is when the left eye can see some of the right image due to pixels not fully shifting. This is eveident in high contrast areas were it takes longer for the pixel to change to the desired colour. The 24" monitors deal with this better than the 22" monitors.
Dlp projectors are available at around £500 that will have zero crosstalk as the technology does not suffer from slow pixel response. The downside is they are 720p. But overall more emersive with the larger screen.

Just ordered a Zotac 580 and a BenQ XL2410T. Still shopping around for the goggles as I cant get over how costly they are, £120 odd seems like extortion! Might save a few quid here and pick them up second hand if I can find them...

My main concern is if the 580 doesn't have enough grunt to provide decent frames. From what ive read most 3D Vision users recommend 480SLI to avoid slideshows. Any 480 users with 3d vision care to comment? Do you have to sacrifice some eye candy to achieve a steady 30+ (or is it 60 for 3d vision?) frames?

I my opinion both AMD and Nvidia 3D solutions are in their infancy so both have issues. As the green team seem to offer the better support I decided to go with them.

Kit should be with me mid next week so ill feedback then.

I tried it with the old eyescream all those years ago, pretty good effect but generally not worth the hassle.

I see ATI and Nvidia are both using ~the same tech - lcd shutter glasses that alternately shut off vision in one eye so doesnt look like it's moved on much.

What has put you off? I wear glasses/contacts and tend to suffer from tension headaches, this really worried me. I was also concerned about leaving the awesome value for money ATI cards - luckily for me a price war emerged and I got a great value 470.

Have you held off? No -I needed a full system upgrade so it was a good time to try.

Is cost a factor? Who's the best at it? Nvidia or ATI? I tried anaglyph 3d using Iz3d driver on my old 5770 before buying nvidia 3dvision. I can't comment on the ATI shutter glasses implementation. I can say that Nvidia have done a great job testing a ton of games and recommending settings.

What would I need with my 6870 to get it working? don't know much about the ATI solution. Couldn't find much on their site.

Any input experiences would be great...I'm bored and need a new project so I might dabble.

Thoughts? I've had my machine for 3 weeks and haven't played anything in 2d since. 3d multiplies the immersion factor by 10. Sure some games have issues, having items in 2d at the wrong depth or poor UI's but I have found the majority of games (surprisingly many older games included) amazing. Anyone who is worried about how they look wearing the specs has got confidence issues, for me its a non issue. A good friend of mine had a go and is now saving his coppers to buy a 3d system for himself (once he convinces his SO :) )

I got myself the 3D kit with the Acer monitor but I find myself playing without the 3D effects more than I have them on, even if you dont use the 3D that much you can still enjoy the 120Hz of the monitor but as people have said many times it really is a try before you buy.

i disagree with 3d being a gimmick.

I have a 63 inch samsung 3d tv and am loving playing the ps3 in 3d - wipeout and motorstorm are breathtaking in 3d.

i now have my pc downstairs and am waiting eagerly for the nvidia software to appear so i can use my pc to game in 3d .

ah you've tried wipeout HD in 3D! what does it do to the FPS and texture resolutions?

how is the 3d implemented is it like racing down a tunnel or is there pop-out from the screen?
