Right, got myself a placement, sold my motorbike, want a decent car of my own. Currently have the option of buying my parents out and getting a MX5 mk2 1.6.

However I've been looking at other options. Mostly Integra Dc2s or Toyota Starlet Glanzas. The only thing holding me back is MPG and rear wheel drive.

I realise these aren't really MPG cars, but most weeks I will be doing approximatley 250 miles, have done some research and apparently a teg driven like a granny with a good 02 sensor will get about 350 from a full tank. Not a clue on the glanza though.

The other issue is insurance, will be 21 and 1 NCB.

So basically does anyone have any other ideas of things I can check out? I'm currently scouring piston heads for inspiration!

Cheers

Alex

no way you getting a teg and insurance for 3k, infact doubt you'll even get a decent teg its self for that amount

though i do vote the teg , there awsome machines wish i could stomach the insurance though, im also nearly 21 with 1 years NCB

Youll get a really rough teg for 3k. Ive never got more than 300 out of a full tank in mine and thats mostly motorway driving. Dont know anything about the glanza except that most people who move to a dc2 teg think its a good step up.

Sorry, should point out the 3k doesn't inclued the insurance. Thats a seperate thing.

Fair enough Ladforce, you sitting around 75ish not going into vtec very often?

Have had a quote on a teg for £750 for year fully comp, not terrible, only £250 more than my micra!

I don't understand this statement. Those two cars are FWD.

The MX-5 is RWD but is not a tail happy death machine so is fine.

Do you live in the middle of nowhere or is the policy in your parent's name? I'm surprised you can get it that low at 21 with only 1NCB.

Yea. Even if its 3k for the car, it wont be a good one and I really wouldnt bother with a bad condition teg that needs the suspensions redoing (around 1.5k to refresh all shocks and bushes) as the point of the car is good, sharp handling. Yea that petrol consumption is at 70 ;) with little to no vtec. If I give it some cross country I get consistently around 240 a tank. Good quotes for the insurance, im 24 with 3NCB and im paying the same pretty much but all mods declared and gf on the policy :)

Yeah, as in I WANT RWD, so the fact both cars are FWD is a put off, but I've only heard amazing things about Integra handling.

Insurance was at Admiral, 600 excess, 4k miles, 2 parents as named drives, postcode was CM77, will be 21 1NCB oh and it was a type R.

Yeah, but if I have lower excess I just end up having the same amount piled on the policy pretty much, swings and roundabouts I guess, 4k might be a tad shy of what I'll actually do but I'll look into it later, still need to ring Sky insurance as they apparently very good with Jap stuff etc.

If you register on itr-dc2.com, sky insurance give a 25% discount for club members (its free to join), see if they quote you any better than that (i expect they wont but its worth having a look).

The MX-5 having a 1.6, isn't amazing RWD action, especially if it's a Mk2 as I hear they are not as good as the Mk1s.

DC2 ITR has a brilliant chassis, drive train and suspension so is a very capable car.

I'm sorry, but I just can't believe that. It's 2.2k for me at 22 with 0NCB and a PL16 postcode, NCB doesn't make that much of a difference. Having the same details as you (two older people) 1NCB and removing my accident from the quote gives £1800 and I live in a field...I don't believe your quote to be honest. :/

Theres quite a few Type Rs up for between 3 and 3.5, just a case of looking and accepting they may have a few cosmetic issues or be high milers. But high miler doesn't instantly mean ZOMG CAR BROKEDZ!.

Yeah am already signed up on there lad, will give em a ring sometime. Cheers though :)

Don't have to believe it mate, I shan't lose sleep :)

Yeah mk2 isn't as good as mk1, bit more lardy etc, still quite a fun car though.

I realise the DC2 is capable, but still enjoy RWD....
