3x 30" Portrait Crossfire Eyefinity vs SLI Surround Showdown

I bet it runs crisis on lowest settings ;)

I don't care for Crysis. Pretty unoptimized for the graphics quality you get. I can run the Metro2033 benchmark and get 60 FPS.

Looks like the chair from '40-year-old virgin', just saying...

This is the chair from the movie:

I don't think it's possible for them to look more different.

BTW just so you know, adding extra cards does not add extra memory, each card must hold a duplicate copy of the data in the first.

3x2GB cards in crossfire would be 2GB total.

I hope this was meant for the general population and not to the original poster. ;)

1920x1080 on huge area looks like dogcrap compared to this rez 7680x1600 or 4800x2560 before adding bezel correction. In the same way as 1650x1080 look better on 20" than 22" rez has to keep up with size.
With your resoning i could play on a console and projector and get away even cheaper if you dont care about IQ or how it looks.
Only if you're sitting ridiculously close. By your logic nobody would ever use a projector for anything. Ask yourself how close you'd actually want to sit to that large a screen and then compare it to the below and consider whether the resolution difference would be perceptible:

I'm not saying it's not a nice set-up, just that I don't understand why a projector wouldn't be a nicer (bezel free) solution.

The reasons 3x 30" LCD's are better than projectors are numerous. Clarity/resolution - LCD hands down. Twice the resolution of 3x 1080p projectors. Text looks like crap on projectors I don't care how expensive they are. You need special software to blend 3x projectors image together. LCD's have a brighter image, no worry about light control like a projector setup so you don't have to sit in the dark.

Expensive bulb replacement. Heat/noise right above your head. Logistics of getting 3x projectors mounted above your head. 3x LCD's can just sit on your desk and your done (albeit a large desk). LCD's traditionally have lower input lag. You can't run projectors in portrait. Projectors have a much greater warm up time versus LCD's. Projectors use more electricity.

I mean the list is pretty extensive. I've done a lot of research on this topic. I was already to go 3x projectors with curved screen and software. Ti'll I found out how much more I like portrait mode multi-screen gaming.

So you take all of those negatives associated with projectors and pit them against LCD's single weakness; bezels. You just can't understand until you experience a window sized image at 12.3 mega-pixels. ;) I am all about clarity and not just about huge images that just makes you sit much further back.

Damn that looks awesome. I think the bezels would annoy me too until I got used to it. Good work, very helpful. :)

Ya, its actually not too bad once you view it for a while. Plus if you remove the plastic bezels, the gap between the monitors is much less. 2560 vertical resolution is pretty damn sweet though.

Nice setup, not sure i could get used to the bezels in portrait mode.

Have used a 3 monitor setup before in standard mode which after a while you don't even notice as the main action is all on the middle screen.

Guess 3x30 in standard position would be too wide. Nice work!

Ya, 3x 30" in landscape was just crazy. So wide there was tons of wasted space out on the sides I didn't even care about.

That's why I didn't go 3x30 as i just knew it it was to much to view.

Its just a pity that NV nor ATI can do PLP 20-30-20 because 4960x1600 is really perfect.

Ya for widescreen, 20/30/20 would be the sweet spot. I am sure there are some pretty tough technical reasons why they haven't accomplished that though.

It would great to have a single panel that size.

Well Windows has no problem & nether does softHT
Its just that they have not thought of implementing it & having the ability for Crossfire in windowed mode would help seeing as SLI works in windowed mode.

Amazing system Vega !

And nice chair :D ! I have a Herman Miller chair also and love it though wish they had a head rest as an option : ( ..

The whole Multi screen is nice but the Bezels kill it for me. Bit like the killer or shadow behind you. Some will get used to it others not..

I think the Future is a single curved V.high Res screen at the Resoloution you run ..alienware had the idea a while back in its clunky and montros brick screen that cost a bomb and never took off.

I have thought about taking apart 3 dell monitors removing the screen casing and then putting them into a custom made frame but it would work out even more than your setup..

So I will make do with my single dell 30" 3008wfp but as soon as they relase the 3000-5000 x 1600 etc single screen (curved) monitor I will be there in a flash..!!
