3x 30" Portrait Crossfire Eyefinity vs SLI Surround Showdown

Wow what an epic pointless waste of money  considering the vast majority of PC games will not scale very well above 1920x1200 (even if they did/do the low res textures will look even poorer:() it would have been better to buy a massive 60"+ HDTV @ 1080P for the immersion factor which would give you a better gaming experience...............

lol the butthurtness is strong with this one. clueless too.

awesome setup mate.

You’ve clearly had a lot of patience to get where you are now! I have a similar setup as you (although not as sexy as yours), running my computers in a separate room, it's great for removing all the heat and noise issues.

How long did it take Nvidia to get the 580 drivers working properly in tri & quad SLI? Due to the sheer costs, I’m going to wait and see if AMD ever get round to fixing their drivers so that tri 6970 actually works. With the 6990 out, hopefully maturing the crossfire drivers on the 6900 chipset will be the priority.

I still deal with bugs here and there. Getting Tri-Quad GPUs to work right, and then toss in portrait mode on top of it has been a long trek!

Here are a few videos showing the different multi-GPU setups with current drivers in side by side:

And some tests showing XFire still has some teething problems to work out in regards to micro-stutter. Although neither solution is perfect.

I think that depends entirely on your financial situation. For someone who can afford a rig like yours, then sure. But if you have a smaller budget then I don't see why buying a 1080P TV isn't a viable option? I bought one at a time when I was unable to get internet in my house, I could use it for watching tv, playing my consoles and using my pc for gaming. With a low budget it's a no-brainer imo. Why buy a TV and a monitor when you can just buy a TV that suits all your needs?

I meant a TV screen as a dedicated computer monitor. There are better options. I've seen a 1080P TV used as a computer monitor before. It looked pretty poor. Blurry text, input lag and you had to sit way far back from it to get any semblance of a decent picture.

I'm running 5760x1200 atm and it's amazing. Wasn't 100% convinced before I got it myself but it really is pretty good.

I was just being pedantic, bored at home :D I don't find my TV that bad, then again, if I was only using it as a monitor, I could've bought a Dell Ultrasharp 120mhz or similar for the same money. Which would obviously be a big improvement!

Do you only use this for testing, or is it your "normal" case? Because it looks pretty sweet! What is it exactly (as in Brand/Model)? I'd love one of them one day!

*edit* No idea why I linked that rounded display, I was meant to link:

Looks awful? In what world does higher resolution = a bad thing? One of the major points of future graphics is to get a higher resolution. Thats why they are working on 4k resolution TV's. Are you one of those people that still uses VHS tapes at 240 lines of resolution for movies instead of Blu-Ray?

Here is an in-game screenshot of a game on my system. Make sure to click the image when it opens to get it "actual size":

Scales incredibly well.

Texture resolution can't do your screens justice, that's why I'm happy with my single dell 3008...
