Hi all,

I need some assistance.

Ordered a new rig with an rtx3090.

Currently use a 4K TV which is dying.

mostly using it for work however will be doing the odd bit of gaming outside of this.

Am torn between the options. 24 or 27” screens, higher than 1080p, so either 1440 or 4K and if i go for 1440 I would like a higher refresh rate.

work on a Helpdesk, so needed so that I can view systems as efficiently as possible, email, ticketing systems, backend systems.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ideally need to be able to take delivery of the monitors before I return on the 6th jan.

Thanks.

I think any graphics card would struggle with three 4K screens in terms of gaming at least.

And surely 4K resolution on a small screen isn't practical? I'd rather go for a 1440p 27" screen and a better refresh rate, good compromise all round?

Hi Spiky,

I am similar to you, i currently use 3x 25inch dell monitors. I have contemplated going 34inch UW and keeping the 3 dells for other duties and to assit with work (cad/quoting/word/excel etc).

In terms lf monitors I want something thats of a decent quality along these lines
LG Ultragear 27GL83A-B 27 Inch Gaming Monitor QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS

It is more expensive, but i will keep looking. If you could keep us updated too that would be great.

Thanks for the recommendation.

It is more expensive, and takes me above my £1000 budget for 3 monitors.

I am looking at alternatives and it is one that I am keeping my eye on.

Will let you know if I find anything.

Are you sure you really want 4K? It may be just me but I still think that 4K is too fine for anything really. Three 27" 2560x1440 gives you a total of 7860x1440 which is a lot of deskspace. 27" is very popular and so relatively cheap. You could get three of almost any make you desire for £1000. Say three of Gigabyte G27Q.

Monitors arrived today. Just waiting on my PC build order to be dispatched.

Got a weird issue and trying to resolve.

Not sure what the root cause is.

Monitors are showing up in windows as running the correct resolution. Connected one via display port, and one other to HDMI.

Both connected to the same gfx card.

Both have a blackboarder around the left, right and top of the displays.

Checking overscan on both (option not available on the monitor connected via DP, and the other screen adjusting the overscan options doesn't make a difference.

Tried different cables, drivers are up to date, including trying the beta AMD drivers and same issue.

Has anybody come across this, and found a fix?

Finding it a bit distracting.

Graphics card is an AMD R9 290. Checked the catalyst settings as well and can't seem to find an option that will adjust it accordingly.

Thanks,

You realise that you can use an ultrawide as 2 seperate screens? Can even connect up 2 different PC's to it and use it as if it were 2 different monitors. The only difference is that there is no bezel in the middle.

Look at this video for a quick example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8q815JZoWg

I was even more surprised at how you can connect a ps4/xbox to it and use it as a separate monitor. If you go for an ultrawide thats 49" (5120x1440p) its essentially the equivalent of using 2 27" monitors.

Right, so I think you may have missed the boat on suggestions.

Thanks for the input though.

It wasn’t about the size of the monitor, it was about workflow management and for my preference, 3 works out better for me, and the bezels aren’t an issue.

Monitors have been purchased and already set up.

The weird black boarder around the edges of the screen are the only issue at the moment.

I assume you do know that the actual LCD panel has a 1cm border all the way around it, irrespective of the "bezeless" design?

Scroll down to borders on this - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gl83a-b

Aaaaah, ok. Yes, I was aware of that. I think it’s just because it’s been so long since I’ve used an actual monitor, and that previous monitors have had bezels that covered that up. :o

All good.

Thanks.
