£4,000 budget for a nippy, fun car?

Pahhhhh rubbish engine!!! Well built compared to the French rivals, well a ST isnt really a rival to an RS ;) :p

Let's not turn this into car x vs car y debate. My post was not meant to be like that, apologies if it reads wrong. :)

Simply trying to help the OP here with some suggestions. The Fiesta ST ticks some boxes.

Nippy - Yes. (150bhp is not slow)
Fun - Yes. (Good handling)
Insurance - Good. (Especially for the OP's age)
MPG - Good. (Won't be needing to stop every two minutes for petrol)

What else... it has bluetooth, 6 cd-changer, half leather interior, heated windows and mirrors, disc brakes all round, nice 17" alloys. It's a nice package. :)

Oooo an ST, that looks like a good suggestion, how becomes the Clio is suggested instead? As you guys can tell I don't know a lot about cars but I very much enjoy driving them.

I can only see one reason to buy the ST and that is insurance and MPGzzz, the RS Clio is a better car in everyway bar build quality. My opinion OC.

Its your choice to make :) They are both good cars.

I passed my test at 17 but unfortunately I was never a named driver as I've never had my own car so the answer to your question is no. I've been driving for almost 5 years but haven't got no claims.

Me too... ring admiral and they'll give you no claims if you can prove you've had no accidents (ie give them your previous policy numbers and the old company's phone number)

Gave me 3 years at 21 with only named driver experience..

Also I have a 325i insured for 1k/year at 21 so over 1.6l is do-able.

The Clio is a hot hatch. The Fiesta ST is a warm hatch simpy down to the bhp output. (This seems to be why people suggest it more). But like I say, for a fun nippy car at 21 that won't cost the earth, the Fiesta ST is a good suggestion I feel. You can always move on to a 182 at a later date, or a Type-R, etc. :)

Cheers for the dig, why would I want a c2? It's absolutely vile.

Take the ST. As fun as the 172's are, the French in them becomes a love hate relationship. Mine spent loads of time in the dealers for niggly issues (MFU warranty was well used).

I'm ruling out the 172 tbh, if I get a clio it's going to be the 182. Sounds stupid but the 182's look much better to me and yes, I do care about the appearance of a car.

We all care about the appearance of our cars, there's no harm in that at all. I think you're more concerned with looks over performance, that's all. It's not a bad thing, it might just help you get some better suggestions :)

I've just remembered that you're the guy who "looks like a skinny lesbian" from the Post a Picture of Yourself thread, hehe. Sorry.

Seemingly over the way a car drives, which really begs one question.

Why the HELL are you looking at hot/warm hatches if appearance/image is all important?

Because the world is not black and white.

Just because he is picky over looks, doesn't mean he shouldn't drive a hot hatch.

It is possible to care about both things in varying degrees.

Why do people on here insist on seeing life as so completely black and white all the time?

I appreciate your trouble and the suggestion mate but that car couldn't be further from what I'm looking for.

Why not, its nippy, fun and can be had for very cheap prices, all of which you wanted in your OP.

Unless your worried that it's too big or the insurance will be too much?
