£400 for a GPU what to buy!

Its very unlikely we will ever see a GTX590 as Fermi is just to far off the design spec. At best it will be a GTX480 style paper launch.

You really only have two Nvidia options, a pair of GTX480's (be warned they are poor cards - read the GTX480 thread for details) or a single GTX580.

I don't think a 590 based on 2x 512 chips is realistic at all, however if one does come out (as it's been noted to be in some beta drivers, though I wouldn't be surprised if they did it on purpose to "prove" the 590's existence), I reckon it'll be more likely 2 560 GPUs.

Since I posted on this topic I have bought 2x 6950 (today only = £398). Both cards unlocked to 900@1400 1536 shaders first try. Clean install, 11.2 drivers.

Performance is great.... Matches 580 and I saved £400+ on the same nvidia setup.

So, bring on 7xxx and 6xx let's see who wins that race - for the sensible man.

How about coming back with a mature, well thought out and well reasoned argument as to why he's wrong rather than just saying "ATI FANBOY BECAUSE HE ISN'T BEING OVERLY POSITIVE ABOUT NVIDIA!"?

His statement is factual, and I don't think you'll be able to point out where exactly he went wrong (because he didn't).

It's merely an opinion from him, OP clearly said he prefers nvidia and has £400 to spend so that's what I'd recommend to him. Also others just jumping the gun and don't even read the thread regarding running an nvidia card on three monitors. If he'd have said £400 or X amount of £ to spend on ATI I'd recommend an ATI card.
