talk to me!!

Dad's birthday on friday, need a new laptop for him, needs to be delivered within 48 hours.

I've read various recomendations and nearly hit buy it now on 3 different models, firstly I thought I'd just buy another 6930g - yes its an acer, yes everyone thinks they are crap but I've had one for in car entertainment when waiting for ferrys etc.. and i think its amazing (1gb 9600 gt GPU model), only thing putting me off that is my own opinion could be clouding my judgement and I might be missing a much better deal elsewhere?

the other one i was looking at was the MSI x-600, looks rather flash, probably rather slow, but he is currently on an old old xp based dell so I reckon a win7 based lappo would appear miles faster anyway?

other models I nearly bought Dell 1746 (didnt due to 8 month delivery time from dell outlet :p)
del 1555 - middle of the road dullness?

if you had 4 hours to buy a laptop and £400ish to spend on it, what would you do!

all advice appreciated as always :)

ATI 4200

Really nice 15.6" Screen, decent battery life (2-3hours on energy saver), £329 (in store price).

I have one and it benchmarks about the same as a Athlon X2 5000+ when in performance mode. Nice matt finsh to with the textured lid and has separate numeric keyboard.

Runs games (pre 07 pretty well), WoW @ 30fps, AutoCAD (civils 3d), Adobe CS etc.
