i'm looking at maybe getting a DSLR and was wondering if it is worthwhile paying the extra ~£200 for the 450 over the 400?

upgrading from a Canon Powershot Pro1...

The jump from 10 to 12 megapixels would be nice I suppose, and there are other little advancements that you would expect from a newer model

But

I still wouldn't say it is worth the extra you'd have to spend

I bought the 450d, simply because I like having the new toys lol
ie the 400d is good, but if Canon thought to replace it, then the 450d must be better lol

I paid £580 and got:
450D with 18-55 Kit Lens
Tamron 70-300mm Lens
4gb SD Card
UV Filter (to protect the kit lens)
"Free" Bag (worth £49.99 apparently)

I'm pleased with it... need to read the manual tho... not found liveview yet :p

Personally I chose to get the 40D over the 450D as there wasn't that much difference in price after the cashback, but as others have said you might be better spending the money on a lens :)

Haha thats false advertising ;) to "save" £300 you have spent a fair whack ;)

Andy

Well not really since you initially do indeed spend the £300 but Canon give you that money back either by cheque or bank transfer so indeed you end up with that money back which is a saving.
