Anyone heard if ATi have any plans to release a 5970 with 4096MB? (2048MB per core)?
Tempted to go for the 5970 but would rather see more memory allocated per core (GTA IV :) )

I was sure that the 5890 was supposed to come with 4GB of RAM.

They will most definitely be releasing one at some point though, there's been some info on one floating about for a while.

When starting GTA4, on the main menu, I make sure everything's maxed except for draw distance, leaving that at ~20. Vram usage is ~980mb.

Load in the game, I turn textures to medium, and max the draw distance to 100.

The draw distance visibly increases for everything, and texture change to medium can't be applied until the game is restarted, nor do they look any worse; yet I'm apparently still only using ~900mb Vram.

Even more confusing, is I'm still averaging 30 fps, no jerkiness at all, running settings that would normally "require" 1.7gb vram.

yes it come with either 2GB or 4GB but you need good PSU to plug this card cos it very hungry to eat more power from PSU - Nvidia will release new GF3xxx but later in 2010 new cards will come up as both ATI and Nvidia still build up more new cards -- I wait until 2011

Hilarious if someone tries putting that lump in a rig running a 32-bit OS.

WHERE'S MY RAM!

The whole of a video cards RAM isn't mapped into system RAM, when I upgraded from a 512MB card to a 1GB card on XP I still had the same amount of RAM available, around 3.25GB. I'm pretty sure the same would be true of a video card with 4GB of video RAM.

To keep the thread on track, let's assume that people that are most likely going to be buying a 4GB card will be running at 2560x1900 with a decent power supply and a 64-bit OS.
(and for those that don't know, 2GB of video RAM per core is only going to see benefits on 2560x1900 or more)

I believe the eyefinity versions of the cards will have double the memory, but I'm not sure which cards are getting eyefinity versions. It might just be the 5870, but there could be a 5970 eyefinity card too.

It's a common misconception since I experienced the exact same thing when I got a 1gb card under XP 32bit.

If they actually bothered to code GTA efficiently then we wouldn't have this problem. I mean it's not exactly the world's most graphically intensive game ever.
