Hi chaps,

Doing an upgrade for a friend and not been looking much for couple of months as been concentrating on the car instead.

9800GT = 8800GT renamed basically?
and...
4850 >= 9800GTX/9800GTX+ ?

I recently did a full build with a 4870 and was impressed, so am keen to try the 4850. The guys case ventilation isn't excellent (oem case), but comes with a C2Q so should have the muscle to power it :) (I hope the PSU is enough!)

Just a bit of advice on either 9800GT or 4850 really, I nkow it's vague bit just looking for advise (and slightly better future proofing and less hassle as he isn't into tweaking systems).

Good shout Loadsamoney :) It's about £1 out of budget for that part... hmm (plus the 4gb mem and cpu cooler as it's awful) If I can work the free delivery thing on OCUK (not looked into it yet), it might all be within the budget. (£200 for 4gb mem, cpu cooler for quad and the graphics card).

How close (percentage wise) is the 9800gt to the 4850 on average? It can be had for fairly cheap it seems.

Bear in mind the 9800GTX is absolutely massive, its a very long card, same size as a GTX280.

9800GTX/+ is also more power hungry than a 4850.

It needs two 6pin PCI-E power leads instead of just one, so you'll need an SLI certified PSU.

Cool.. just the things I need to know. Pretty much sealed the fate for this OEM machine.

Quality info, thanks guys :)

EDIT: Oh and thanks to the free shipping thing, looks like I'll be buying from OCUK again. Another £200 ocuk wouldn't have otherwise got. Well done for sorting that out Rupert :D (on my last full machine build £700 ish) you guys didn't get used because of this (Wasn't bought via me anyway.. but via his accounts)
